BENIAMINO KALOUDAU RESTS IN PEACE
By Archbishop Peter Loy Chong
It is with sadness as well as gratitude to God that I convey the passing on of Reverend Fr. Beniamino Kaloudau. Fr. Beni passed away around 4pm on Tuesday 12th April at the Immaculate Conception Presbytery.
The Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Fr. Beni was born in Burelevu, Tailevu on 14.12.1954.
He attended the following educative institutions:
1961-1968 Natovi Catholic School
1969-1976 St John’s College
1973-1975 Corpus Christi College
1979-1985 Pacific Regional Seminary
He was ordained to the priesthood by the late Archbishop Petero Mataca
26 April, 1986 in Natovi.
Fr Beni served in the following parishes:
04.051986 – 1987 Sacred Heart Cathedral, Suva
08.11.0987 – Feb 1993 St Andrew’s Parish, Savarekareka, Savusavu
28.02.1993 - April 1993 St Elizabeth Parish, Vudibasoga
He was Acting Vicar General for the Archdiocese of Suva from 26.04.1993 – 1996.
Archbishop Petero Mataca appointed him Vicar General May 1996- 2013.
He was Parish Priest, Immaculate Conception Parish, Lami since 8.02.2010.
He also served as chaplain to the Catechists and Catholic Women’s League.
Fr. Beni is known for his commitment and zeal for pastoral ministry. He has a no-nonsense approach to implementing diocesan directives. Although known for his straight-forward nature, he has a tender loving heart.
Fr. Beni has not been well in the recent years and has been hospitalized a number of times. His latest medical report showed that he was suffering from the following:
• Congestive Cardiac Failure
• Ischemic Heart disease (heart problems caused by narrowed heart arteries)
• Dyslipidemia (having blood lipid levels that are too high or low)
• Gout (common and complex form of arthritis)
He was discharged from hospital on Monday 11th April.
Fr. Beni peacefully died in his sleep around 4pm Tuesday 12th April in Immaculate Conception Parish presbytery.
We thank God for the gift of Fr. Beniamino Kaloudau and he may receive the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge has prepared for him. (2 Tim:4:8)
Rest in peace, Fr Beni, good and faithful servant.
