The Initiative:
The Basket of Goods for Frontline Workers is an initiative of the educators in Fiji that aims to support Frontline workers; especially the nurses, doctors and members of the defence forces and others who are serving in hospitals, health-centers, quarantine places and checkpoints during this COVID-19 pandemic. Through this initiative, the educators from the Ministry of Education, the 3 Universities in Fiji, Pacific Theological College, Fiji Teachers Union and Fiji Teachers Association, mothers, parents, youth groups, NGOS and a few companies and friends are united to provide assistance that will support them morally and resource-wise as they try to fulfil their roles. Objectives:
Provide support for Frontline workers and their families. Provide opportunities for different Education Institutions, the Ministry of Education, Teachers Unions, NGOs, Business Houses, Families and fellow educators (at all levels) in the Pasifika to make connections, share knowledge and ideas to strengthen their resolve in situation as such. This also provides opportunities to connect with other institutions, organisations, communities within and internationally to learn and share knowledge with each other in regards. Activities:
Setting up Teams for each community: Central, Nadi, Tavua/Rakiraki, Lautoka, Nausori, Navua and Labasa. Each Team will meet and make decision on the logistics for: funding, procurement and distribution. Distribution is happening the week beginning 2nd-7th of August 2021. Others may take place later as well. Membership:
Basket of Goods for Frontline Workers Initiative, welcomes institutions, corporate bodies, communities and individuals who would like to join by donating in cash and kind. The initiative is also looking at opportunities to make connections with fellow educators in other Pasifika countries as well.
