The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, advises all parents, guardians, students, and school management that schools in the Western, Central, and Eastern Divisions will remain closed tomorrow, while schools in the Northern Division will remain open.
This decision follows updated situational reports from all four divisions, in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), and reflects the ongoing impact of adverse weather conditions across parts of the country.
Current reports confirm 1,019 evacuees across affected areas, including 698 in the Western Division, 221 in the Central Division, and 100 in the Eastern Division. Several schools in these divisions continue to operate as evacuation centres, further limiting their readiness for normal school operations.
Flooded roads, unsafe crossings, and restricted access routes continue to pose significant risks. The Ministry emphasises that the safety and well-being of all students remains the top priority.
Students in the affected divisions are to remain at home under the supervision of parents and guardians. Parents are strongly urged to ensure that children do not attempt to cross flooded areas under any circumstances.
Subject to further assessments, schools in the Western, Central, and Eastern Divisions are expected to resume on Monday, pending official confirmation.
Tertiary institutions are encouraged to make independent decisions based on their own risk assessments.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to support learning from home through school-provided platforms and resources.
The Ministry will continue to monitor developments and provide timely updates.
Hon. Radrodro extends his best wishes to all Fijians and visitors during this period.
Vinaka vakalevu and God bless.
