Extended reality has been touted as a pivotal technology as part of industry 4.0, but has yet to make a significant impact in industrial applications. Shipbuilding is a longstanding and traditional branch of industry which is characterized as slow to innovate. This article presents a systematic literature review analyzing the research in the use of extended reality within the shipbuilding industry. The focuses of this review are on the current extent of research being conducted, how different sub technologies of extended reality overlap with different phases of shipbuilding, and how technology is evaluated and what kind of value can be derived from current research. https://doi.org/10.3389/frvir.2026.1797341

VST-seminar at Cadmatic on Wednesday 11 February gathered together some 30 people from the project partners, and a handfull more online. Our researchers provided an early peek to our up-coming XR-demo, and presentations on Usability testing of VR for​ visualizing indoor smoke ​propagation and extraction (with Novia), and on Shipyard information systems for commissioning.

A systematic literature review is a type of research that rigorously answers a specific question by identifying, appraising, and synthesizing all available evidence from multiple studies. During the past year, the mixed reality team from the University of Turku’s Department of Computing has conducted a systematic literature review on the research and use of extended reality (XR) within the shipbuilding industry.

VICTIS- ja Ympäristö OK -hankkeiden yhteiswebinaarissa 22.1.2026 puhujana muun muassa laitoksemme ohjelmistotekniikan apulaisprofessori Tuomas Mäkilä.

Tuleva Green ICT -webinaari avaa näkymiä siihen, mihin suuntaan ICT-hankinnat ovat kehittymässä, mitkä ovat yleisimpiä hankintoihin liittyviä sudenkuoppia ja miten organisaatiot voivat hyötyä hankkeiden tarjoamasta tuesta.

Tapahtuman järjestää VICTIS – Vihreää ICT:tä Itä-Suomesta -hankekokonaisuus yhteistyössä Ympäristö OK – ICT-hankintojen ympäristökestävät ohjelmistokriteerit -hankkeen kanssa. Ympäristö OK jatkaa VICTIS-hankkeen aloittamaa työtä tukemalla organisaatioita ympäristökestävien hankintakriteerien käyttöönotossa ja lisäksi edelleenkehittää Motivan kriteeripankissa julkaistuja ohjelmistonhankintakriteereitä. Molemmat hankkeet ovat EU:n osarahoittamia.
