🗓️ 6–7 October 2026
📍 Åbo Akademi University, Astra (Porthaninkatu 3, Turku)

Join us in October to discuss the latest developments at the Centre for Sustainable Ocean Science (SOS)!

In our upcoming annual meeting, we will share results from our various workpackages and case studies that examine maritime traffic, offshore wind development, restoration, and governance challenges in the Archipelago Sea area, as well as the opportunities and obstacles of interdisciplinary and art-science collaborations. We also invite stakeholders to offer their input as we cross the halfway mark of our five-year research plan.

👉 Details on the program and registration will be made available on our website during the spring and summer: https://sites.abo.fi/centre-for-sustainable-ocean-science/annual-meeting-2026/

Weather Below the Surface: How Citizen Climate Detectives Are Revealing the Hidden Climate of the Sea 06/05/2026

We talk about the weather all the time. It’s the universal icebreaker, the backdrop of our daily decisions, and something we often feel we know well.

But while we carefully follow the weather in the sky, another kind of weather remains largely unseen: the weather in the sea.

Thanks to a group of engaged citizen scientists, this hidden world is finally coming into focus.

🔹

In this latest SOS blog post, Giannina Hattich and Christian Pansch delve into their ongoing project that examines microclimates and heatwaves in the Archipelago Sea with funding from the SOS Project Booster program.

Read about the project's first results and next steps, and join the growing team of Marine Climate Detectives!
