💬 Learn a Few Finnish Phrases

Can’t wait to get started at ? It’s getting close – less than a month to go – let’s do this!

Don’t speak Finnish? No problem! You’ll get by just fine with English, but learning a few local words goes a long way.

Try these:
👋 Moi = Hi
🙏 Kiitos = Thank you
👋 Moi moi = Bye
❓ Missä on…? = Where is…?

🤗 Don’t stress – English is widely spoken, but locals always appreciate the effort!

Our slogan Kiss My Turku – what’s that all about? 💋 (Disclaimer: The views expressed here are our own and do not necessarily reflect the views of the city of Turku.)

For years, Finns have jokingly called Turku "the ass of Finland" 🍑. If you ask us, we have no idea why.

But. Turku decided to reclaim this saying and we said: “Kiss my Turku!” 😘 It’s our cheeky way of saying we’re proud of our city – no matter what anyone says 💙 It’s bold, weird, and perfectly us.

And hey, if Turku is the ass of Finland… it’s definitely 6/5 🔥

🗺️ Did you know Turku has two names? That’s right – in Finnish it’s Turku, and in Swedish it’s Åbo!

Finland is a bilingual country where language rights are protected by law. 📜💬 The two main official languages of Finland are Finnish and Swedish. There are also several official minority languages: three variants of Sámi, Finnish Romani, Finnish Sign Language, Finland-Swedish Sign Language, and Karelian. 🫶

In Turku, you’ll see both languages everywhere – on street signs, at the market, and even in public transport announcements. You don’t need to speak these languages, as most of the Finns speak English (phew!), but knowing a few Finnish or Swedish words will definitely bring a smile to the locals’ faces! 💙
