Today we celebrate Kalevala, one of the most important pieces of traditional Finnish literature. Along with 21st of February (Finnish language day) this is a day to learn about, embrace and celebrate Finnish culture. Use the day as an opportunity to learn more about the Finnish literature and culture!

Even if the only Finnish word you can use with confidence is...moi! you should know that April 9 is the day when Finland celebrates Finnish Language and memorialises Mikael Agricola, who was instrumental in creating standards for Finnish as a written language in the 1500s. Finnish language belongs to the Uralic family of languages, it is native to more than 5.4 million people and has even influenced Tolkien in creating the language of the High Elves!
Check the options the University offers for you to learn the language of the country you are living in and remember...sisu is the most useful word learning Finnish! ;)
