UNICEFinnovation has published its 2026 Impact Brief, and Eduten is in it! 📘

Confidence in a classroom isn’t only a “mood”. Psychologist Fred Luthans spent more than thirty years studying what he calls psychological capital, or PsyCap.

It’s built on four traits (the short version is HERO):
🧩 Hope
🧩 Self-efficacy
🧩 Resilience
🧩 Realistic optimism

The good news for teachers is that none of these traits are fixed. A student's belief that they can improve is something a classroom builds or wears down, depending on how the adult in the room behaves.

We think it’s a hopeful thought! The kid who has decided they are bad at math has not settled anything, they just have not been shown otherwise yet.

In the Nordics, schools are pulling screens back out of the classroom 📵 The research behind that is worth taking seriously.

This trend is aimed at the right things. Phones, laptops and social feeds on them can’t be replacements for the person in front of the desk.

Eduten was never that. What we do is focused sessions where students work through math actively, while the teacher stays in the room and sees how each child is doing. Eduten supplements the lesson, it doesn’t replace the teacher, the book or the pencil.

We read this shift not as a verdict on edtech but a correction. As in, less scrolling, more purpose.

"You're so clever" feels like a compliment. It might be actually doing the opposite 🚫

There's a difference between praising the person and praising the process. "You're so smart" ties success to a fixed trait, so when a child hits something hard, they have nowhere left to go. "Great job, you clearly worked hard" means success is something they built, and can build again.

Carol Dweck's research found that ability praise backfires. Effort praise hands children a lever they can pull again next time.

A student who answers 20 questions correctly in 3 minutes might understand the topic, or they might be guessing well 🙇

A student who takes 12 minutes might be struggling, or they might be working through each problem carefully and learning more deeply than the fast one.

This is why Eduten’s analytics look at more than just speed and accuracy. Diligence, the willingness to attempt difficult problems, and the pattern of mistakes all tell a richer story about what’s happening in a student’s head.

A quick but memorable trip for our Global Head of Partnerships Makke Leppänen and Pedagogy Expert Tanja Meriluoto, who spent a packed day in Prague 🇨🇿

The highlight was a school visit, where 4th and 6th graders got a sneak peek at where Eduten is heading. Watching students light up in the classroom is the best part of the job.

They also met our partner Ondřej Karpíšek and caught up on how things are going in Czechia.

Finally… No trip to Prague is complete without a little exploring. The Old Town Square, the astronomical clock, and a walk along the Vltava with views of Prague Castle and Charles Bridge.

Tonight, the sun in Finland barely sets. This weekend, the country slows down to enjoy nature, good food, and the company of friends and/or family.

Last week was Eduten’s annual summer party, and it was an amazing chance for all of us to gather in one place and enjoy each other’s company without work.

We did a treasure hunt, took on a few challenges (gamification!), and enjoyed a sauna (we wouldn’t be a Finnish company without one, would we?) with a stunning view over Helsinki. Too bad Avan, Makke and Marta couldn’t join us. We missed you!

This was a wonderful day for all of us at Eduten, and a great way to start June.
