August 2 is coming. Are you ready?

The next phase of the EU AI Act takes effect on August 2, 2026. It introduces new transparency requirements for AI-generated content.

What does this mean in practice? Will every AI-generated image or video have to be labeled?

No.

The key question is: Could this image or video mislead the viewer?

If AI has been used to create a realistic image or video that could make someone believe it depicts a real event or situation, the use of AI must be disclosed.

On the other hand, AI-assisted retouching, background extension, object removal or color harmonization generally do not require a visible AI label. In those cases, a machine-readable disclosure is enough.

In Adobe applications, this can be done using Content Credentials. Support is available across Adobe’s imaging and video applications, and the information can be viewed with the free Adobe Content Authenticity Inspector.

There is no official AI label, nor is there a required placement. You are free to design a label that fits your own style or your company’s brand.

The EU has also published a set of optional AI icons that can be used as visible labels.

Personally, I think this is a positive change. The goal is not to discourage the use of AI, but to increase transparency where it matters.

Perhaps it will also bring a little more appreciation back to traditional editing skills. That’s not a bad thing either.

Why do the same color numbers look different?

Color mode determines whether your work is intended for print or digital. But the color profile defines what those numbers actually mean.

The same RGB or CMYK values can produce different colors simply because a different ICC profile is assigned.

This video demonstrates exactly that.

Same numbers. Different colors.

If you work with color in design or prepress, this might change how you see your files.

Did you know that you can preview how your image will look in print directly in Photoshop?

Soft Proofing is especially useful when printing on uncoated paper or newsprint. It lets you preview the effects of color conversion and fine-tune the image before it goes to press.

A calibrated and profiled workstation provides the most accurate preview, but even on a standard display, Soft Proofing helps you understand how the image will change in print.

🎬 In the video, I show how Soft Proofing works in Photoshop.

How Black is your Black ink?

When creating printable files, black is one of the most elegant colors or to use. But did you know basic black is not really total black, but more of an dark gray when printed?

To create color deeper then the basic on tone black, you can and should mix blacks from various CMYK channels. When doing so, the result is called Rich Black.

Rich Black can be cold, neutral or even warm This depending colors the mixed ink has.

When mixing ink we come across another problem. How can I preview colors correctly in Illustrator or Indesign. To have spot on preview demands calculated and calibrated workstation, Wide Gamut moniror and neutral ambient light.

But always the first step is to change Prefefences so, that you tool of choice can show different blacks as mixed. In this video I show how you can change Preferences to show Blacks correctly.

Firefly Workspace in Photoshop.

A recent Photoshop update included something really interesting for Firefly users. You can now create and prompt images directly inside Photoshop using a separate Firefly workspace.

Main idea is the ability to use Firefly similarly to the Cloud version, but with tools focused purely on image creation and editing. This gives more direct access to the right tools when creating images or modifying them with prompts.

Images created in the workspace are automatically saved to your personal CC Cloud. From there, they can be opened in various Adobe programs, distributed, or downloaded for further use.

At first, this felt a bit like an unnecessary update. But after using it for a week, it actually helps a lot with focusing on the task at hand while creating.

Even better, the new workspace improves image control by saving the prompt session together with prompts and reference images. This makes it easier to continue prompting later from a specific stage in the Firefly workflow.

In this video, you can see how the new Firefly Workspace works with simple image prompting and reference images.

Editing a color and all its uses at the same time in Illustrator? Totally doable.

There are plenty of “eyedropper tricks” out there for managing colors, but if we keep it simple, the most logical way is to use global colors.

A global color means that when you edit the color, every object using it updates instantly. This makes your workflow much smoother, especially when the same color is used across multiple elements, artboards, or even an entire document.

One change. Everything updates.

In the video, I show how it works in practice.
