☀️Juhannus 2024 ☀️ Kiitos! Tack! Thanks! ☀️ What a marvelous two weeks we've had celebrating midsummer at the Finnish American Folk School! We are so grateful to the instructors, performers, students, and audiences who celebrated with us. Students from across the country learned to play the jouhikko and built traditional jouhikko bows with Clare Zuraw and Alice Margerum. Weavers tied thousands of colorful knots in Lisa Wiitala's Ryijy Weaving workshop. Children and adults had fun learning Finnish with Becky Luoma of Language-Clubhouse Violinists from Copper Country Suzuki Association joined jouhikko players to play for Kivajat Dreaming of Finland dancers. White Water from Crystal Falls played a wonderful dance and Jouhi-kombo brought live music to the opening of the third annual Folk School at Midsummer exhibition in Finlandia Art Gallery. Visitors chalked the walk and made flower crowns North Wind Books at the Finnish American Heritage Center Thank you all for being a part of this celebration!
