Before moving here, we all have a picture in our heads of what life in Lapland will look like… and then reality adds its own little plot twists. 👀

Maybe it’s learning the famous winter walk on icy streets 🐧🧊, realizing that staying warm is the winter look 🧣, or discovering that the Northern Lights don’t always follow your schedule. 🌌

Some things take a little getting used to, some make you laugh, and some turn out even better than you expected. And somehow, those unexpected moments become part of the experience and eventually, part of what makes Lapland feel like home. ❤️❄️

Finding my sense of home in a new country 🌸

Moving to a new country comes with a lot of changes. For me, feeling at home didn’t happen overnight. It came slowly through small routines, meeting new people, exploring my surroundings, and staying connected to my culture.

Sometimes, it’s the little everyday moments that make a new place feel familiar. 🍀

Still learning, still exploring, and slowly making Finland feel like home. 🧡

Lapland can look almost unreal from the outside, but studying here still feels surprisingly normal.

You have lectures, projects, deadlines, coffee breaks and everyday routines, just with Arctic seasons, nature close by and a completely different environment around you.

That contrast is probably one of the things I like most about studying here.

After two wonderful years, this is my final post as Social Media Ambassador for University of Lapland.

Studying in Finland as an international student has been such a meaningful experience for me.

What I really appreciate is that studying here also gave me the chance to go on exchange in another country. It made me realize that university is not only about classes — it’s also about seeing different cultures, meeting new people, and learning how to adapt to new environments.

Living in Finland taught me independence and a different way of thinking. Going on exchange gave me another perspective and made the whole journey even more memorable.

Arrival assistants help welcome new international students to Lapland! They support pre-arrival prep, guide students with housing and practical matters, assist during orientation, and act as a friendly point of contact to help them settle into their new academic and student life.
