Starting university can feel exciting, overwhelming, and full of possibilities.

One of the first and most valuable things you can do is create your study plan. It isn’t just about selecting courses, it’s about designing a path that reflects your goals, interests, and the experience you want to build during your studies.

And remember that you don’t have to figure everything out on your own. Your Tutor Teacher is there to help you plan your studies, answer your questions, and support your academic journey. If you need additional guidance, don’t hesitate to visit the Guidance Corner. Sometimes, asking one question early can make the rest of your semester much smoother.

Your study plan isn’t set in stone. As you discover new interests and opportunities, it’s completely okay to revisit and adjust it. Growth is part of the journey.

Take the time to plan, stay open to learning, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Every great journey begins with a thoughtful first step.

Starting university in a new country can feel exciting, overwhelming, and everything in between.

If you’re joining the Tourism, Culture and International Management program this autumn, these are a few practical tips that can make your first weeks a little smoother.

Remember: you don’t need to have everything figured out from day one. Be curious, ask questions, step outside your comfort zone, and make the most of the opportunities around you. Some of the best lessons in tourism happen far beyond the classroom.

When I first started preparing for life in Lapland, I thought packing was about collecting outfits for different looks.

But after living here and learning from a Finnish friend, I’ve realized it’s something else entirely.

Here, clothing isn’t about how many outfits you have but more about how well your clothes help you move between indoor comfort and outdoor reality.

You don’t need more fits.You need the right ones that help you adapt and make the most of every season.

The transition from winter to summer in Rovaniemi has been one of the most fascinating experiences of my student life. Watching the snow disappear, seeing nature turn green again, and experiencing almost endless daylight has completely changed my daily routine. What once felt unusual is gradually becoming part of everyday life. As I continue adapting to the rhythm of the Midnight Sun, I’m discovering new ways to enjoy the outdoors, stay active, and appreciate the unique beauty of a Nordic summer.

Student life as an international tourism student often teaches you things far beyond the classroom. One of the most unexpected yet meaningful parts of my experience has been discovering cultures through shared meals and friendships. Food, in its simplest form, became a way to connect, understand, and experience people from different backgrounds. For new students and anyone stepping into international life, these everyday moments often become the most memorable part of the journey.
