When talking about risk factors for memory illnesses, I describe our current situation as a very worrying palette.

We sit a lot, our attention constantly shifts from one thing to another, so we don't practice deep concentration or challenge our brains to create new neural connections. We are lonelier than ever, we stress a lot, which also affects sleep.

I often say that memory illness is not a disease of old age, it is a disease of middle age. For example, lack of sleep and the risk of memory disease go hand in hand already from middle age.

It is crucial to get information about the importance of memory health to younger people. Small everyday choices and lifestyles that form routines help brain health in later life.

Lastly, the best way to create neuroplasticity in the adult brain is physical movement in a sensory-enriched environment.

Lääketieteen tohtori Hanna Poikonen on tutkinut tanssin vaikutusta aivotoimintaan ja kuntouttaa muun muassa muistisairaita, MS-tautia sairastavia ja aivoverenvuodosta toipuvia tanssin avulla.

“Paras tapa luoda neuroplastisuutta aikuisen aivoihin on liike rikastetussa ympäristössä. Tanssi yhdistää musiikkia, vuorovaikutusta ja kosketusta, sosiaalista kanssakäymistä ja visuaalista estetiikkaa,” kertoo Poikonen.

Jo 2–3 tanssikertaa viikossa voi tutkimusten mukaan aiheuttaa aivoissa plastisia muutoksia.

Tervetuloa WiseMotion-retriittiin, jossa perehdymme aivojen, mielen ja kehon hyvinvointiin tohtori Hanna Poikosen kanssa! Kokoonnumme tämän ainutlaatuisen retriitin äärelle Arctic TreeHouse Hotellissa Suomen Lapissa 1.-4.8.2025.

Join the WiseMotion Retreat in the Finnish Lapland - Brain Health through Movement and Science with Dr Hanna Poikonen on August 1st - 4th 2025!

The creator of WiseMotion Dr Hanna has shared her knowledge through various ways and platforms: academic research papers, popular science magazines, newspapers, general audience talks, podcast interviews and movement workshops in person and online.

However, she has noticed that the best way to create lasting changes in our everyday habits which support our wellbeing and cognitive performance is through several day retreats in a calm location where you can fully immerse into the world of movement, science, and creativity with an insightful group of like-minded people.

Thus, the yearly highlight is coming again in August! In collaboration with Arctic TreeHouse Hotel, we will organize the second WiseMotion Retreat in the Finnish Lapland. Warmly welcome!
