The social events are a chance to connect, experience Faroese culture, and enjoy Tórshavn’s atmosphere. Here’s a short overview of each, and you can read more by following the links in this post. (Note that advance registration is required - your registration receipt will show which ones you've picked.)
🛬 25 May – Welcome Home Reception
A relaxed warm-up with live music and light refreshments at the national football stadium Tórsvøllur, and an opportunity to pick up your badge and meet fellow participants.
🎉 26 May – Official Opening Reception
A (primarily) outdoor celebration in Tórsgøta, featuring local dishes (such as scallops and grilled lamb and a sweet treat from a waffle stand) and live Faroese music in the heart of the city.
🌊 28 May – Ocean Night, the Closing Reception
A festive wrap-up at the main Congress venue Við Tjarnir, with a curated menu of local specialties (such as sugar-cured Faroese salmon and and smoked mackerel) and an energetic live Faroese band.
In addition to these social events, the Congress program will feature a range of cultural elements throughout the week. Participants can look forward to experiencing Faroese music, traditions, and craftsmanship, offering a glimpse into the local culture alongside the academic program.

The 2026 issue of the annual Shared Voices magazine is now available online!
In the 2026 issue, you will find stories about 20 years of impactful collaboration on health and well-being, marine heatwaves and their effects on Arctic shipping, learning on the land and with community, strengthening the Arctic voice in Europe, increasing sustainability in Arctic snow crab fisheries, and many others.

Apply now: The 12th Korea Arctic Academy
The application deadline for the 12th Korea Arctic Academy is coming up on April 29, 2026! This is a unique opportunity for students from Arctic countries to join a fully funded study program in Korea focused on Arctic issues, policy, and culture.
The Korea Arctic Academy will take place from July 6–10, 2026 in Korea (GMT+9), hosted by the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) in collaboration with UArctic.

The award recipient will be announced at the Arctic Circle Assembly in October in Reykjavík, Iceland. The Frederik Paulsen Arctic Academic Action Award is a collaboration between Arctic Circle and UArctic.

The draft program for the UArctic Congress 2026 and the Ocean Connectivity Conference is now available!
The current version of the program only covers the sessions taking place from 26–28 May at the venue Við Tjarnir. As some elements are still being finalized, the program remains subject to change. It will continue to be updated as details are confirmed, and we recommend visiting the Congress website regularly for the latest updates, additions, and practical information.
A wide range of activities will take place throughout the week, including thematic plenary sessions, parallel sessions and poster sessions, the Ocean Connectivity Conference, the UArctic Rectors’ Forum and UArctic Assembly, and receptions hosted by event sponsors and partners.
