I’m Erkka, one of the Aeropole Diamond Cadet students from Tampere!

Next, it’s my turn to take over the Aeropole Instagram account, and I thought it would be a great opportunity in the coming days to share my own experiences about changing careers and pursuing dreams at the age of 30+, while working full-time alongside my studies!

A few words about me
-33 years old(young)
-Previous work experience in entrepreneurship, photography, and e-commerce
-Started studies at Aeropole in 5/2022
-Estimated graduation in 11/2024
-Achievements so far during my studies: PPL(A) license, SEP and NF ratings,159 flight hours, 304 landings, 4 different aircraft types, landed in 7 different countries during studies

Hello there!

I'm taking over the Aeropole account now.
My goal is to show You how the life of a flight student looks and feels like...and give some perspective for the ones planning a career as a pilot.

Some facts about me:

Name: Jaakko Huovila
Age: 45ish years old
What I do for living: 20+ years in Event Marketing
Family: Wife & a part time dog (He is a dog full time, but lives with us for some time)
Experience of flying before: 99 countries as a passenger - none as a pilot

Started studies at Aeropole: 9/2022
Nature of studies: Full time student 7/2023-2/2024. "Half time” student other time.
First school flight: 30.9.2022 at Lahti-Vesivehmaa Airport
First solo flight: 25.7.2023 (NEVER FORGET!)

Current status with studies: completed about 2/3 of my ATPL theories (Airline Transport Pilot License)
Estimated time of graduation: Turn of the year 2024-2025
Qualifications: PPL (Private Pilot Licence since 09/2023) + NF (Night Flying)
Flight hours:
77 hours of school flights
23 hours of PIC (Pilot in command)
32 hours of simulator
TOTAL: 133h and 341 landings

My future plans: To become a professional pilot - transporting humans or cargo…not sure yet.
