Suvi Lapinkangas was awarded as laboratory teacher of the year and Jarkko Sulasalmi as lecturer of the year in Maljis 2026 🎉🥇

Last week our Sustainable Nutrients project had an interesting day as we visited Puolanka, “the capital of the world pessimistic thinking”, together with our colleagues from Kajaani University of Applied Sciences and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Heikki Kanniainen (Business manager of Puolanka) introduced us to the local biogasification plant where they produce heat and electricity from municipal sludge. We also got to collect some water samples for our nutrient removal testing.

Today on 31.03.2026 Tomi Parviainen defended his PhD thesis "Discovery and development of small-molecule inhibitors for ADP-Ribosyl hydrolyzing enzymes". Opponent was Professor Jari Yli-Kauhaluoma from University of Helsinki and Custos was Docent Juha Heiskanen. Congratulations Tomi on successful defense! 🎉
