The Faculty of Mathematics and Science includes a cross-disciplinary research centre, the Nanoscience Center (NSC), where physicists, chemists and biologists work together to study nature at the nanoscale.
What is nanoscience?
The unique Nanoscience Center (NSC) at the University of Jyväskylä is a cross-disciplinary research center where physicists, chemists and biologists working together collaborate to solve challenging problems that need strong multidisciplinary expertise. Nanoscience Center is one of the most eminent hallmarks of excellence in research at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Its research projects span from fundamental investigations of processes in nanoscale structures to development of commercial products.
In our Master’s Degree Programme in Nanoscience, you gather multidisciplinary know-how in the field of physics, chemistry, and biology. This combination is unique in Finland and abroad. The Master’s Degree Programme takes two years and is offered fully in English.
In addition to lectures and laboratory work, you will work research groups as part of on-going research projects. After completing your Master’s Degree, you have different career opportunities in several sectors. A large portion of existing companies are interested in nanoscience and technology and increasing number of them are already using nanotechnology in their products Having a Master’s Degree in Nanoscience you are fully prepared for doctoral studies and an academic career.
Nanoscience Center forms an international scientific community with around 25 research groups and more than hundred researchers, and includes several distinguished renowned scientists. The high-level research environment makes it possible to understand how physicists, chemists and biologists think, how people work together while everyone has their area of expertise and create new innovations and ideas. There are facilities for the characterization, fabrication and modelling of objects down to nanometer scale. The laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art technology for imaging, synthesis, and characterization of nanostructures such as biomolecules, nanoparticles, and viral vectors, or even single molecules.
