What an exciting time we had today at the UEF Optica Student Chapter celebrating the and the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. We started off by learning about Quantum computing and its applications and also had some time to discuss Diamond photonics and its various applications as well as discussing the viability of Quantum Sensing.

Thank you Malykhin for making time to add more experience to this day.

Thank you Optica for being resourceful towards this event.

Light talk, laser laughs, and a bit of healthy competition!😉

Here's a peek into our coffee hour where we sip, chat, and play games that stimulate emission of smiles😁 But more importantly, we organise academic and professional discussions.

Come for the coffee☕, stay for the energy!💪🏾

Welcome to UEF Optica Student Chapter

The past Wednesday, the Chapter had an insightful meeting with Claus Roll, Deputy Senior Director for Europe at Optica. This meeting marked a step forward in shaping the future of our chapter and exploring new opportunities for growth and collaboration.

During the discussion, we explored among other issues (1) Student chapter activities and ways to enhance engagement. (2) Collaborations with other Student Chapters to foster global networking. (3) Optica’s Traveling Lecturer and Ambassador Programs for knowledge-sharing. (4) Career development pathways, funding opportunities, and travel grants to support student participation in leading conferences.

We also shared insights into the collaboration ecosystem in Joensuu, where our chapter works closely with the EOS Finland Student Club under the mother club Photonics Joensuu Student Club (PhoJoe), fostering a collaborative and inclusive student community.

We appreciate Claus Roll and Optica for the support. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to strengthening student participation in Optics and Photonics in the region. Thanks to our hardworking Executives Reuben Amedalor (President), Syed Zafar Hussain (Vice president), Onah Ebere (Secretary) and AMAL JOHAN T J (Treasurer).
