This spring I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon in my studio with a lovely group of creative children and teens, writer Kelly Duval Kelly Duval and photographer Emilia Kangasluoma from ThisisFINLAND team to chat about my wild ink practice and host a hands-on workshop.
Sometimes I feel like the process of foraging, simmering, filtering and painting with inks gifted from nature is so simple—too simple—a thing. It may be true, but to me, it’s also precious, personal and even meditative.
More and more though, I’m starting to see a bigger picture of how it has the potential of being a real catalyst for ecological mindfulness and engagement.
I’ve thought about this for a while, but having chances to talk about it as well as watching people of all ages experience their moments of awe and wonder in my workshops is always inspiring and promising. The seeds of possibilities and visions of carving out a place in modern culture for nature-based color have definitely been planted and being nurtured💚 Let’s see where this journey takes me!
