A big thank you to all Erasmus+ students, teachers, partners, and collaborators — including the European Schools of Tallinn and Copenhagen — for a truly inspiring week this May in Helsinki!
Day 1:
We continued the second phase of our shared project European Schools for the Baltic Sea, a theme that connects us all. The week started with energising team-building activities, followed by discussions on how laws and environmental protection help care for the Baltic Sea. Thank you to the experts from ECHA and the House of Science of Hope for making these topics clear and engaging.
We also explored the world of algae, combining science and art in a creative way — thank you to our wonderful speaker for bringing this to life. The day ended with a relaxing sailing experience with HSS, giving us all a new perspective on the sea we share.
Day 2:
We visited Harakka Island, where students explored how microplastics can be detected in fish using microscopes. We navigated a windy Baltic day and stayed mindful of nesting birds around the island. Back at school, students started designing their ideas for the next day’s workshops at Oodi.
Day 3:
At Oodi Central Library, our theme was “Why own when you can share?” Students took part in hands-on workshops: turning waste into keychains using a laser cutter with our multi talent colleague Anthony, recording environmental podcasts in a professional studio guided by the inspiring Jean-Philippe, and preparing Baltic Sea-friendly dishes with the one and only Antoine. The day also included a walk along Baana and around Töölönlahti, where students observed how sustainability and the sea are considered in city planning.
We are very grateful to everyone who helped make the week so meaningful 💙
