Today the University of Helsinki launched an massive open online course on Artificial Intelligence together with Reaktor.
The Elements of AI aims to democratize AI by introducing its basic concepts through practical, real-world scenarios.
The course is free for all and requires no prior knowledge in AI, programming or complex mathematics. For students, the course is worth 2 ECTS credits.
"The reception of the course, already before the launch has been incredibly warm, and we've been happy to get about 25000 pre-registrations. Knowledge about a technology that is in such a prominent role in today's society should be more easily available to everyone." says the lead instructor of the course, Associate Professor Teemu Roos from the Department of Computer Science.
The course has attracted a lot of attention in the industry as well. Dozens of companies including Supercell, Finnair, KONE, and Nokia have accepted the pledge and expressed intent to encourage their employees to take the course. The Chairman of the Board of Nokia, Risto Siilasmaa has been actively involved in creating the course in an advisory role.
"The commitment to open education and raising awareness of AI is something we share with the University of Helsinki" confirms Hanna Hagström, Director of AI at Reaktor.
