Aalto Sustainability Club

✨ On December 4th, we had a Christmas event featuring an inspiring talk by Charlie Gardner from Scientist Rebellion. He explored the concept of social contagion and why both individual and collective climate actions matter. The evening also included a fun cookie decorating workshop, where we used vegan frosting to create our little pieces of gingerbread art (well, we tried 😄).

🌾🌾 Flashback to our inspiring visit to , part of ASC’s "Food Innovation Afternoon"! 🌾🌾

Last week, we had the privilege of exploring Enifer’s cutting-edge approach to sustainable food production. Through innovative fungal fermentation, they upcycle byproducts from the agrifood industry, transforming it into PEKILO mycoprotein – a highly nutritious, versatile, and eco-friendly protein ingredient.

The visit sparked curiosity and sooo many questions, with ASC members eager to learn more about the science and sustainability driving Enifer’s mission. 🌍✨ We got to taste delicious treats inspired by PEKILO, showcasing its potential in everyday foods!

We are excited to follow Enifer’s journey as they redefine the future of sustainable protein and circular food systems. Huge thanks to the team for hosting us and sharing their passion and expertise! 🍄💚

Last Friday, we held an exciting Company Crawl, visiting four amazing companies leading the way in sustainability! 🌍✨

First, we stopped by Combient Pure, where Business Development Manager Anna Pakkala and Head of Combient Pure Marika Määttä shared their mission to accelerate value chain transformations toward a low-carbon, circular economy. ♻️

Next, we headed to Carbo Culture (), where Talent Acquisition Lead Rahul Pardasani introduced us to their scalable biochar carbon removal solutions. 🌱

At Greencode Ventures, Investment Analyst Helmi Puustinen explained how the company supports the green transition by investing in early-stage, impactful startups—and even walked us through venture capital decision-making in a short case exercise!

The final company, Virta (), is one of the fastest-growing companies in Europe and a leader in electic vehicle charging platform technologies. Brand & Corporate Communications Director Esa-Pekka Nykänen explained the company’s role in the EV charging ecosystem and how they’re shaping the future of clean energy. ⚡🚗

A huge thanks to all four companies for an inspiring and educational afternoon! 🙌 We had a blast with who joined us to this fantastic event. 🌿

Foraging is all about slowing down, noticing the little things, and embracing the joy of exploration and discovery 💚

In 2024, we had two unforgettable gatherings—in spring and in autumn—where we not only cooked delicious meals together but also explored the beauty of sustainability through collaboration. My name is Arsalan, and I am a Board Member, responsible for communication. I am currently in my first year of the Master's program in Sustainable Metals Processing at Aalto School of Chemical Engineering. I am deeply passionate about making metals production more sustainable, particularly by reducing carbon emissions and minimizing the carbon footprint.
In my free time, I love taking long walks, playing games such as cricket and football , experimenting with different recipes in cooking, and enjoying time with friends and meeting new people.I love gardening, so on weekends, I visit a garden and spend some time working with plants. In the evenings, I enjoy reading, watching good movies, learning languages, and visiting beaches.
