Taidekoulu Maa kouluttaa Suomenlinnassa nykytaiteilijoita ammattiin ja järjestää avoimia iltakursseja / Alternative art education since 1986

Performing Toolbox - Copy Master course with Paria Mohajerani on Re(f)using, Re(pro)ducing, and (Re)membering

This course is for those who want to play, experiment, and discuss a (not-)serious topic: how to make performance art without “making” anything new, but by transforming what is already there. There are so many works, forms, materials, and artists that we admire, look up to. We wish that ‘art’ was on our walls, to own it, to touch it, maybe sign it as our own? Why not explore these messy, ambitious desires together collectively, at our old, cozy Taidekoulu Maa?

Experimental Moving Image – Introduction to Video Art.

This course is for anyone interested in creating moving-image works or exploring experimental film and video art. We will look at the entire process of making moving images, from the first idea to creative and technical steps. You will also learn the basics of DaVinci Resolve, a video editing program, and how to use it creatively as well as from a personal idea to scriptwriting, shooting, and editing.

Together, we will watch and discuss experimental short films to explore their content and techniques. The goal of the course is to give students both understanding and skills to work independently on artistic projects.

During the course, each student will create a video or another artistic project, either individually or together with another student, to be presented at the end of the course.

RESPONSIBLE TEACHER/FACILITATOR
Jade Kallio (they/them)

TEACHING METHODS/WAYS OF LEARNING
The course includes practical exercises and discussions. We will explore the content of works, their relationship to your own thinking, and how to structure and create art technically. Students will use equipment that is already accessible to them.

PEOPLE’S ART PROGRAMME is an OPEN CURRICULUM OF ART SCHOOL MAA

Art School Maa understands “people” as a word for anyone who wishes to learn art and creative practices, for citizens who wish to find agency and meaning in their environments, and for artists who come together to rethink what they are doing, why and for whom. People’s Art Programme is Art School Maa’s answer to the ongoing changes in art education and cultural funding in Finland. It maintains a critical view of art and art education. It includes, recognises and promotes diversity of practices, self-organisation and alternative voices.

The curriculum is based on five modules:

FOUNDATION- 4-5 weeks courses providing guidance into skills, methods and perspectives in art making;

PRAXIS- weekly workshops focused on particular artistic mediums;

RE-FOCUS - intensives providing deeper dives into particular focal areas of artistic thinking;

SHIFT - events and short intensive collective studies dedicated to the re-imagination of public knowledge and art

OPEN LECTURES - art talks tracing approaches to art histories

Art School Maa is an artist-led and community-based association for art and education that creates spaces for critical thinking and experimental artistic practices.
