Ich Schaff's - Pilot-Evaluation eines systemisch-integrativen Beratungsprogramms in der Schulsozialarbeit
Abstract
»Kids’ Skills!« – Pilot Evaluation of a Systemic-Integrative Counselling Programme for Social Work in Schools
The article summarises the outcome of a three-month evaluation of the »Kids’ Skills!« (ich schaff’s) programme undertaken in the context of school social work at a German Hauptschule (lower secondary education). The objective was to measure the effect of the programme on personal and environmental resources of the pupils over and against those of a comparison group. The intervention was aimed at pupils probably exposed to a number of risk factors and displaying the effects of those factors in everyday school life. The outcome of the evaluation suggests that compared to the control group, those pupils receiving counselling in accordance with the flexible 15-stage »Kids’ Skills!« programme achieved significant changes in their subjective feelings of empathy, self-efficacy and self-worth. There were also favourable changes in their subjective experience of integration into school life. Accordingly, the introduction of the programme in practical social work at school appears recommendable. At the same time, further evaluations are necessary to test for the stability of this outcome. In the final analysis, the results reported here encourage practical social work accompanied by evaluations as a way of furthering the cross-sectoral scientific and scholarly recognition of systemic procedures.

There was a meeting yesterday where our German representatives and several of their partners, including Carl Auer Verlag, the publisher of Kids'Skills books met to discuss ways of taking Kids'Skills the next step in German speaking countries. Kids'Skills, or Ich Schaff's as it is called in Germany, is quite popular in German countries. It has a good reputation and somehow fits very well with the current trends, including NVR (non-violent resistance) which is also very popular in those countries.

Check out this video. It is fantastic. The speaker is Alan Kazdin, a psychologist who has developed a scientifically proven parenting training program. In this video he speaks about positive opposites which is in fact the very same idea that Kids'Skills is based on.
