This isn’t meditation. It’s a check-in with your instrument before you use it.

Do this in the 10 minutes before you walk into a rehearsal, an audition, or onto set. Standing or sitting, eyes open or closed — whatever feels natural.

The Body Scan

Start with your eyes.

Are your eyelids relaxed and soft — or do they want to stay tight and restless? Don’t try to change anything. Just notice.

Move to your jaw.

Is it tight? Loose? Somewhere in between? Don’t try to change it. Just notice.

Move to your throat. Is there something sitting there — something unsaid, something swallowed? Again — just notice.

Your chest. Is it open or closed? Are you breathing into it fully, or keeping it small and controlled?

Your hands. Are they gripping something, even when there’s nothing to grip?

Your stomach. Your hips. Your feet on the floor.

Move through each one slowly. Not to fix anything. Not to relax into some neutral, performance-ready state. Just to find out what’s actually there.

Because here’s the thing — whatever is in your body right now is your material. The tension in your jaw, the weight in your chest, the restlessness in your hands. Actors spend enormous energy trying to clear all of that before they work.

But the Meisner approach asks something different. It asks you to become aware of what is there — and to bring it with you, honestly, into the room.

You can’t access your emotional life if you don’t begin the journey of getting to know how it moves in your body.

And this is where it starts.

What actually sets you apart as an actor isn’t control or perfect performances — but the opposite.

It’s allowing boldness to take over your work so your uniqueness can emerge fully.

The things that feel slightly unpredictable, alive, even a little strange… are often what make you unforgettable on screen.

Range is your willingness to stop managing the performance from your mind, and instead follow what is real, raw, in the moment.

That’s where individuality shows up — not in learned choices, but in impulses you trust enough to follow.
But this kind of work rarely happens on set. Sets are for delivery.

Real expansion happens in training — where you can explore, fail, and discover what only you can do.

Our Advanced Actor’s Lab is created to set your uniqueness free so that you can change the game and finally go after what you want.

Starting this fall in Helsinki. For professional actors ready for their next level.

Apply now. Applications open until May 31st.

Yesterday’s Meisner intro was something special. 🤍

Thank you to every single one of you who joined us — whether you were in the room with us or connected online. You showed up, and that already takes courage.

We spent the session in the heart of the Meisner Technique. Simple on the surface, but endlessly revealing. Round after round, something shifts. The chatter in your head quiets. You stop performing and start genuinely seeing the person in front of you. And they see you back.

The bravest thing happened again and again yesterday: people stepped forward, dropped the mask, and were simply themselves. Recognised for exactly who they are — not who they think they should be in a room full of strangers.

That’s what this work does. And you felt it.

Thank you for your openness, your presence, and your willingness to go there. It’s a rare thing, and we don’t take it lightly.

If yesterday stirred something in you — we still have a few spots open for our One Year Training starting in Helsinki, we’re still receiving applications to Oslo and to the Advanced Lab for working professionals. Both trainings start in fall 2026. If you’ve been thinking about it, this is your sign.

What actually makes a performance unforgettable?

It’s not perfection. It’s not control. It’s not even talent in the traditional sense.

It’s vulnerability.

Ashlie Walker — one of our lead coaches and a Meisner teacher with over 20 years of experience — breaks down why dropping the armor is the most powerful thing an actor can do. Why the moments we try hardest to protect ourselves are exactly the moments we lose the audience. And why the work of a real actor isn’t about performing — it’s about being truly, honestly present.

This is at the heart of the Meisner Technique. And it’s at the heart of everything we do at Actors Academy.

Want to experience it yourself? Join our Meisner Intro Session on May 14th — live in Helsinki and online via Zoom. Actors Academy alumni will share their experience with the technique, and you’ll get to practice it firsthand.

Actors Academy was born from a deep passion for the craft of acting.

Our mission is to create real pathways for both emerging and professional actors — supporting sustainable careers in an industry that can often feel challenging to navigate.

Our One Year Training combines Meisner-based craft, emotional availability, and truthful moment-to-moment work with practical camera training for the realities of screen acting. Alongside this, actors develop mind–body tools for presence, resilience, and long-term growth.

We bridge the gap between craft and career — supporting actors with auditions, agents, and the tools needed to step forward professionally.

By the end of the training, actors graduate with a professional toolkit: filmed scenes, showreel, voice reel, headshots, and a live showcase for industry.

Over the past 7 years and 12 training groups, we’ve had the joy of seeing our alumni step into the industry with confidence — including roles on international platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+ and more.

For us, it’s never only about technique. It’s about building a real foundation to create, work, and live with authenticity and empowerment.
