Our applicants often wonder if there are any age requirements and restrictions for the study programs we offer. Well, the short answer is that there is only one requirement on our part – you must be 18 years old or above. Otherwise, Finland promotes and supports students of all ages – adults being one of the most important groups! The applicants are often worried that they might be too old for starting their tertiary studies in Finland. Well, let us assure you that there is no such thing in Finland as being too old for your studies. In Finland and other Nordic countries, students start their vocational, college or university education quite late by world standards – around the age of 24. In comparison, the average age if a student in a tertiary degree program in Japan is 18 and 20 in France. In fact, the number of applicants below the age of 20 has been gradually decreasing in Finland, whereas the age group of 25-29 has been outgrowing the others, especially in vocational education.

Maksuton varhaiskasvatus kaikille, korkeakoulututkinto joka toiselle, lisää ulkomaalaisia opiskelijoita – näin hallitus linjasi koulutuspolitiikkaa 09/04/2021

We have good news for anyone interested in job and study opportunities in Finland. The Finnish government has recently submitted a 100-page long report to the parliament that provides a comprehensive long-term plan on Finland's educational strategy that will extend until 2040. It has been more than 10 years since the last time this kind of report was compiled.

Among many questions dealing with early childhood education and equality, the government proposes a strong focus on tripling the number of international study programs, making the transition from professional/vocational to higher education as smooth as possible and providing more employment opportunities to international students.

Maksuton varhaiskasvatus kaikille, korkeakoulututkinto joka toiselle, lisää ulkomaalaisia opiskelijoita – näin hallitus linjasi koulutuspolitiikkaa Hallitus antoi eduskunnalle laajan koulutuspoliittisen selonteon. Viimeksi vastaava selonteko on laadittu vuonna 2006.
