It’s one month to the premier of S H O E S 👟🩰🥾🩴👠🛼👞👟🥿 14.-28.8

It’s that time of the process when I have to shed my skin and abandon who I was before I started this journey. It’s very necessary to do, otherwise I’ll end up remaking the last piece of choreography I’ve created. I’m trying to remind myself that I’m under no obligation to be anything anyone expects me to be.

Shedding my skin means changing and changing always means abandoning the comfort zone. Nobody ever invented nothing innovative when they felt at ease. You have to feel like you’re skin is crawling, like what used to fit you perfectly at a time is now way too limiting.

I feel like my skin can’t hold what’s about to come so I need to change. I have to put my poker face on and believe that what I’m creating is worth the suffering. The inevitable pain that you only feel when there’s no way back from this.

I know it’s very Madonna of me but reinvention is crucial when you want to grow. And I know I still have something burning in me that can only come alive if I embrace it with my whole entire being. So welcome to my new chapter called
S H O E S 🛼👟👠👡🥿🥾

SHOES is my fifth premiere as a choreographer. The performance draws from different dance genres, popular culture and shoes, shoes and shoes. With glitter dust in the eyes, leather boots and stiletto heels, we dive through a caramel world to the core of being a dancer. Performances at KokoTheater 14.-24.8.

In the piece I’m going to stomp through the history and genres of dance by examining the dancer’s relationship with different shoes. Each shoe represents its own dance technique and the skills it requires. The shoes bring out the journey that I’ve made so far in my career as a professional jazz dancer.

During my work as a performer, different shoes have been brought to me and I have been told how to wear them. I have obeyed and trained uncompromisingly, on the terms of each project, on the terms of each shoe. Now I get to challenge my habits and decide how I want to dance with which shoes. I’m going to burn the boundaries that have tried to tame me. I’ll shed my skin and create my a kingdom of shoes that I control.
