”When I finished my school, I was struggling to get a job in Kakuma. The opportunities are very limited, and it was very difficult to purchase food at home, so we were only able to get one meal a day,” says Rahma Napeyok, one of the students of Creative Kakuma. Despite the difficult employment challenges, Rahma is now gaining valuable skills and hope for a better future through the training provided by Creative Kakuma. This initiative is a beacon of hope, empowering the youth to overcome obstacles and build a better life.

Many young people who cannot secure stable employment due to their difficult life circumstances refer to odd jobs as ”hustling”. These unstable life situations can make many young people’s lives feel unstable, insecure, and difficult to envision their own dreams for the future. In unstable life situations, young people often encounter violence, exploitation, and crime in their efforts to earn a living. The fact that many have to experience daily survival struggles and chronic uncertainty can lead to more serious mental health issues and find it hard to clearly see their own dreams through their difficult life circumstances.
