Welcome to HAMK for all new students!

Here’s some good tips for the start:

📌Confirm study place and enroll to the academic year.
🔐Activate your username for HAMK services (write down the username and password, you will need them OFTEN).
💻Start getting to know HAMK and university studies with Starter Kit of Digital Skills (Includes plenty of useful info!)
🤝Become a member of the student union HAMKO, and thus make sure that you have a student card available in the beginning weeks of academic year.
📄If you are living permanently in Finland, check your eligibility for a financial aid for students.
🏠If you are moving, get to know to your new home town.
🩺If you are a degree student, remember to pay a student healthcare fee (except if you have social security coverage in another EU/EEA country or in Switzerland or the UK. In this case, check from FSHS website, what you need to do)
✨But above all, enjoy your studies and student life!

Vuoden HAMKilainen-palkinto nostaa esiin hyvää ja laadukasta työtä, jota HAMKin henkilöstö tekee opiskelijoiden hyväksi eri puolilla organisaatiota.

Opiskelijakunta (HAMKO) opiskelijoilta keväällä ehdotuksia, ketkä HAMKissa korostavat ammattikorkeakoulutuksen merkitystä ja ovat ansioituneet erinomaisella työllä ja kannustavat opiskelijoita. Ehdotuksia tuli runsaasti, lähes 130, kaikilta kampuksilta.

Opiskelijoiden perusteluissa korostuivat halu kehittää opetusta, monipuoliset opetustavat sekä opiskelijoiden tukeminen.

Opiskelijakunnan raati käsitteli kaikki ehdotukset ja teki valinnat niiden perusteella. Vuoden HAMKilaiset palkittiin HAMKin henkilöstöpäivillä 6.8.2026. Kunniakirjat palkituille jakoi opiskelijakunnan hallituksen puheenjohtaja Silja Nyberg (kuvassa keskellä).

The HAMK Person of the Year award highlights the high-quality work performed by HAMK staff across the organization for the benefit of students.

In the spring, Student Union (HAMKO) asked students to nominate individuals who champion the value of higher education, excel in their work, and encourage students. We received many nominations—nearly 130—from all campuses.

The students' proposals highlighted a commitment to developing teaching, the use of diverse teaching methods, and the support provided to students.

A panel from the student union reviewed all nominations and made the selections based on them. The HAMK Person of the Year were honored at HAMK’s staff day on August 6, 2026. Certificates were presented to the recipients by Silja Nyberg, Chair of the Student Union Board (pictured in the center).

Ollaan palattu kesätauolta! 😎

Toimiston väki, eli työntekijät ja hallituksen puheenjohtaja löytyvät siis jälleen toimistolta.

Hallitus palaa ensi viikolla toimeen, ja sen jälkeen tavoitat taas kaikki. 😊

Jäsenpalvelu avautuu ma 17.8., m***a erikseen sovittaessa autetaan paikan päällä jo nyt. Vastaamme siis jälleen puheluihin, viesteihin ja sähköposteihin.

Osallistuttiin tänään HAMKin Henkilöstöpäivään, vietettiin sitä Hämeenlinnan korkeakoulukeskuksella. Ohjelmassa oli puhetta työelämän tarkoituksesta, kisailua Amazing race-henkeen, palkittiin Vuoden HAMKilaiset ja eläkkeelle jäävä rehtori Pertti Puusaari kiitti kaikkia päivän päätöspuheessa.





We're back from the summer break! 😎

The office staff, meaning the employees and the chair of the board, can be found at the office again.

The board will return to work next week, and after that you can reach everyone again. 😊

The member service point opens on Monday 17 August, but if separately agreed, we will help on site already now. But you can reach us remotely already by calls, messages and emails again.

Today we participated in HAMK's Personnel Day, celebrated at the Hämeenlinna University Centre. The program included a talk on the purpose of working life, a competition in the Amazing Race spirit, the HAMK Person of the Year was awarded, and the retiring rector Pertti Puusaari thanked everyone in the closing speech of the day.

Pistä päivämäärä ylös, joulukuussa juhlitaan HAMKOn 30-vuotisjuhlaa! 🥳

Vuosijuhlakutust lähtevät hieman myöhemmin, m***a nyt kannattaa laittaa päivämäärä la 12.12.2026 kalenteriin! Vuosijuhlaa juhlitaan Hämeenlinnassa, keskustassa.

Syksyllä on muutakin hauskaa tiedossa lähestyvät juhlan kunniaksi, joten kannattaa seurailla.



Save the date: HAMKO’s 30th anniversary gala is taking place in December! 🥳

Invitations will be sent out a bit later, but you should mark Saturday, December 12, 2026, in your calendar now! The anniversary celebration will be held in the center of Hämeenlinna.

There is other fun in store this autumn leading up to the celebration, so stay tuned.

Keväällä tapahtunutta: Kumppaniyhdistysten tapaamiset

HAMKissa toimii useita opiskelijayhdistyksiä, ja 9 yhdistyksistä toimii opiskelijakunnan kumppaneina. He ovat erittäin tärkeä yhteistyökumppani HAMKOlle, ja siksi olemme puolin ja toisin yhteydessä pitkin vuotta ja teemme monipuolisesti yhteistyötä.

Yhdessä me edistetään opiskelijoiden asioita HAMKissa sekä järjestetään tapahtumia ja toimintaa.

Pidämme vuosittain kumppaniyhdistyspäiviä, joissa kouluttaudutaan ajankohtaisista aiheista ja päästään keskustelemaan isommalla porukalla. Keväällä on käsitelty mm. häirintäyhdyshenkilötoimintaa, vaikeiden tilanteiden käsittelyä ja HAMKin tulevaisuuden suunnitelmia.

What happened in the spring: Partner association meetings

There are several student associations at HAMK, and 9 of the associations act as partners of the student union. They are a very important partner for HAMKO, and that is why we are in touch throughout the year and cooperate in a variety of ways.

Together, we promote student affairs at HAMK and organize events and activities.
We hold annual partner association days, where we educate ourselves on current topics and get to discuss them with a larger group. In the spring, topics covered included anti-harassment contact person activities, handling difficult situations, and HAMK's future plans.

Paljon onnea opiskelupaikasta, tervetuloa HAMKiin! 🥳

Mahtavaa, kun tulet mukaan opiskelijayhteisöömme. HAMKissa on moninainen yhteisö, ja meitä hamkilaisia opiskelijoita onkin todella laajalla alueella! Päiväopiskelijoita kohtaa paljon kampuspaikkakunnilla, m***a monimuoto- ja YAMK-opiskelijoita löytyy ihan joka kolkasta Suomea, jotkut opiskelevat jopa ulkomailta käsin!

HAMKO on HAMKin opiskelijoiden opiskelijakunta. Ollaan opiskelijoiden muodostama yhteisö, ja tehtävämme on edistää opiskelijoiden hyvinvointia ja oikeuksia. Tuodaan opiskelijoiden ääni kuuluviin ja järjestetään tapahtumia, tempauksia ja muuta toimintaa yhteistyössä HAMKissa toimivien opiskelijayhdistysten ja HAMKin kanssa.

It's great that you're joining our student community. HAMK has a diverse community, and we Hamk students are spread across a really wide area! There are many day students on campus, but there are also students from all over Finland, some even studying from abroad!

HAMKO is the student union of HAMK students. We are a community formed by students, and our mission is to promote the well-being and rights of students. We make the students' voices heard and organize events, activities and other activities in cooperation with the student associations operating at HAMK and HAMK.

Summer is here, and the HAMKO office has already headed off to enjoy the summer holidays! ☀️

The Board and office staff will be on leave from Midsummer onwards and will return to their desks on Monday, August 3rd.

HAMKO's service point in Hämeenlinna University Centre re-open on Mon, August 17.

However, Chairperson Silja will be monitoring HAMKO’s email throughout the summer, so you can still get in touch if needed. Please note that responses may take a little longer than usual.
