What does care really mean in higher design education? And what do students and educators need to feel supported, included and able to learn creatively?

As part of Work Package 2, the EduCare project has explored these questions by bringing together the perspectives of students and educators through surveys, interviews and focus groups.

The findings highlight key issues in today’s design schools, including feedback, time pressure, assessment, belonging, inclusion and wellbeing support.

One key message emerges from the research: care should not depend only on the goodwill of individual educators. Instead, it should become part of a shared ecosystem of care, involving students, educators, support services and institutions.

The two WP2 reports are now available to read and download from the official EduCare website.

Cumulus Student Talent Camp Ahmedabad 2027 – Present Tense calling for participation!
2-8 February 2027 .
Students and Faculty welcome.

Present Tense is a 3-credit hybrid international design studio built around Refresh: a shared inquiry into how existing materials, practices, systems, relationships and ways of seeing can be carried forward through design. Students begin online in their home contexts, meet in Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar for a seven-day intensive Talent Camp, and complete the journey through peer sharing back at their home institutions.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend Ahmedabad Design Week as invited guests and engage with the design community.

Faculty Participation
Present Tense welcomes faculty from participating institutions into the international learning community. Faculty accompanying a cohort of five or more participating students receive complimentary programme registration.

Present Tense is an international design learning initiative hosted by the Unitedworld Institute of Design, Karnavati University, bringing together students, educators and practitioners for a week of immersive, place-based learning across Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Inspired by the values of the Cumulus Design Declaration and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Present Tense will be a lab for responsible, regenerative and context-responsive design practice.

Creatives in Lapland, let’s reimagine time!
Does the concept of time excite you? Ever wondered what time could look or feel like if we moved beyond conventional ways of measuring it?
On 20 October, The Doodle Time Institute in collaboration with University of Lapland and Service Design Strategies and Innovations is bringing the Reimagining Time workshop to Lapland. TDTI is an independent, non-profit global lab researching the science of time for organizations, society, and individuals.
Through playful exercises and speculative design, we’ll explore our relationship with time and turn ideas into tangible speculative time prototypes.

CONGRATS! 🎉👏🏻 MOME, our member in Budapest Hungary, ON has won first prize at the Green Gown Awards!

The university’s MOME Zero and Ecology 2 Design programmes have earned first prize at the prestigious international award, which recognizes sustainability initiatives in higher education.

The award-winning initiative brings together a community garden, beekeeping, composting, tree planting and a waste bank under one shared approach: demonstrating how sustainability can become tangible both in education and in the university’s everyday operations.

This year’s Green Gown Awards saw 89 applicants from 63 countries reach the final across eight categories, with MOME receiving the top award in the Nature Positive category.

According to the international jury, one of the greatest strengths of MOME’s programmes is that the individual initiatives do not operate in isolation, but build on and reinforce one another to form a coherent system. The judges particularly highlighted the innovative and holistic approach of the projects, which also create new opportunities within MOME’s operations and can serve as an inspiring and adaptable model for other higher education institutions.

🔶 »Designers in Residence« scholarship program calling for applicants!

The town of Pforzheim invites young international designers to Pforzheim for three months as part of its scholarship program »Designers in Residence«.

The scholarship program is directed towards young international designers in the areas of jewellery, fashion, accessories, industrial and communication design as well as other design disciplines. Applicants must have completed studies at an university of applied sciences or university, must either not be older than 35 years or must have completed their studies not longer than two years ago. To apply, a proposal for a project that can be implemented during the scholarship must be submitted. Interdisciplinary project proposals are welcome. Language skills in German or English are required.
