Aalto-yliopiston ja Helsingin yliopiston tuore tutkimus osoittaa, miten vasemmistolaisiksi määritellyt keskustelijat lähentyivät Natoon myönteisesti suhtautuvia käyttäjiä Twitterissä Venäjän hyökkäyksen jälkeen. Disinformaatiosta ammentavat keskustelijat pysyivät kuplassaan hyökkäyksestä huolimatta.

”Hyökkäyksen jälkeen Nato-vastainen vasemmistolainen ryhmä rikkoi oman uudelleentwiittauskuplansa ja lähentyi Nato-myönteistä ryhmää aiemmista vasemmisto-oikeisto-jakolinjoista huolimatta. Sen sijaan Nato-vastaisen salaliittoteoreetikoiden ryhmän kohdalla tällaista muutosta ei havaittu, vaan tämä ryhmä pysyi pääosin omassa uudelleentwiittauskuplassaan”, sanoo väitöskirjatutkija Yan Xia Aalto-yliopiston tietotekniikan laitokselta.

Kuplautuminen ei tutkijoiden mukaan rajoitu pelkästään Nato-keskusteluun.

“Demokraattisen päätöksenteon kannalta on tärkeä ymmärtää, että tällaiset disinformaatiokuplat ovat osa poliittista todellisuutta myös Suomessa ja että tahot, jotka niiden olemassaolosta hyötyvät – esimerkiksi Kremlin propagandakoneisto – pyrkivät myös todennäköisesti aktiivisesti ruokkimaan niitä", sanoo Helsingin yliopiston valtio-opin apulaisprofessori Tuomas Ylä-Anttila.
