[CEMS TERM ABROAD]
You never get bored in Paris. The city is full of affordable dinner spots, and if you’re in the mood for something more chill, you can grab your friends and have a picnic by the Eiffel Tower. People are incredibly active here and you’ll see runners along the Seine at every hour of the day. Paris is packed with cafés, museums and events going on every single day of the week.

If the big city ever feels like too much, the HEC campus has amazing facilities for pretty much any sport you can think of, from tennis and pilates to dance and crossfit. The outdoor spaces are perfect for jogging or just going on a long walk.

France itself is such a great place for an exchange because there is so much to see. You can hit the slopes in the Alps during winter, visit countless historical sites, explore the vineyards across different regions, or enjoy the beaches in the south or on the west coast.

Sydney is one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the world. The city combines the fast-paced, Manhattan-esque atmosphere of the CBD with some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, all within less than an hour of each other. This contrast made daily life especially exciting, as the city constantly offered something new depending on where you were.

Australians are well known for their laid-back and social attitude toward life, which made Sydney a very welcoming destination for an exchange semester. Combined with the warm weather and outdoor lifestyle, this created a relaxed and social atmosphere throughout the term.

What made the exchange especially unique was how Sydney became a fantastic base for exploring this part of the world together with other CEMSies. Many of us traveled across Australia and to nearby countries during the semester, creating unforgettable shared experiences and friendships far beyond the classroom.

I was amazed by how massive Tokyo really is. There are a million things to do and you will never get bored while living here. I have especially liked the food and the wild colours and sounds in the city. Outside of Tokyo the nature has been jaw-dropping as well. Everything feels completely new and different here, which has made the CEMS exchange an unforgettable cultural experience.

Meet Viivi, the current Student Board Representative of CEMS Aalto.

Q1: What does a Student Board Representative do?
A Student Board Representative connects students with the local CEMS Club, the school, and the global CEMS community. As a student board, we meet in person twice a year to discuss current topics and share ideas, while also working throughout the year in different teams. This semester, I have been part of two teams, Digital Innovation and Alumni Relations, where I have got to plan and execute different projects and initiatives.

Q2: What has been your most memorable CEMS experience so far?
My most memorable CEMS experience so far has definitely been travelling to Cairo for Marenostrum, a regional CEMS event. We had three days full of programme, including cultural activities, academic sessions, and corporate visits. It was really cool reconnecting with some of the other SBRs, as well as making new friends from all over.

Q3: What would you like to share with someone considering doing CEMS MIM?
CEMS is an amazing opportunity to meet new friends from all over the world. You get to study in an international environment, learn from people with very different backgrounds, and become part of a global community. Many of the best parts of the programme actually happen outside the classroom!

CEMS Skill Seminar on Sustainable Finance in Practice: Investing Through a Child Lense led by a CEMS Alumn and colleagues from . The seminar brought our CEMS students new knowledge about the diverse ways children are taken into account when investing keeping children's realities, experiences and future opportunities in mind.

Skill Seminars are practical half-day or full-day sessions offered usually by CEMS Corporate or Social Partners, or by CEMS alumni. They shed light on current issues faced by multinational organizations and teach CEMS students relevant skills for the working life.

CEMS Global Leadership seminar "Human Rights and Business in a Changing World" is one of the highlights of Aalto CEMS MIM year. Students spent two full days learning and engaging with each other and our visiting human rights and business professionals Frances House and Ron Popper from IHRB and Ylva Stiller from . We hope that this seminar challenged their thinking, shed light on the many human rights issues in different business fields all over the world, but also gave our CEMSies some means and understanding on how to tackle them and encouraged them to take action towards a fairer world both now as a consumer and in the future as decision makers and leaders.
