Madda Walabu University Founded in 2006 in Bale Robe, Ethiopia. Our motto: "Devoted to Impact"
Home to four Centers of Excellence in Agriculture, Biodiversity, Health, and Tourism.

Madda Walabu university is one of the higher educational institutions located in south eastern part of Ethiopia , Bale zone at about 430 Km away from the capital city, Addis Ababa. The name Madda Walabu university is given to the university based on the place which is 227 km away from the zonal town Robe to the south west. Historically, the place is closely related to the Oromo people who are the

brain child of the culture of the “Gada” system as it has been recurrently indicated by elders and modern researchers. This place has deep rooted value for Oromo people. Nowadays, the name Madda Walabu is commonly used by Madda Walabu stadium, Madda Walabu Cultural band, Madda Walabu university itself and other smaller business centers named after this unique place in order to make the memory long lasting in the mind of the people. Madda Walabu university is, in fact, among the recently founded institutions of higher education in the country. However, despite its being recent, the university can be categorized as the rapidly changing institution in terms of student admission and expansion of programmes and campuses. Its geography and its state of being bread basket in terms of production makes its surrounding to be the Ukraine of Africa, which in turn makes the university a place of worth living. More over, the university is surrounded by different tourist attraction centers which make it appealing to be an ear catching institution to be visited. Currently, the university is running over 42 programmes at BA/BSc/MSc and BEd levels. It has 10 schools. The existing schools are Technology and Engineering, Natural and Computational Science, Agriculture and Natural Resource Management, Health Science, Social Science and Humanities and Business and Economics, each of which has its own course team. At the present, there are 12,190 students in the university whose number has steadily been increasing from year to year.

ስልጠናው የተሰጠው በኦሮሚያ ፖሊስ ኮሚሽን እና በኦሮሚያ የመንገድ ትራንስፖርት ኤጀንሲ በቅንጅት ባዘጋጁት መሰረት ሲሆን የዩኒቨርሲቲው የተሽከርካሪ፣ጋራዥ፣ስምሪትና ትራንስፖርት አገልግሎት ስራ አስፈፃሚ ደግሞ የማስተባበር ስራውን አከናውኗል፡፡

በመደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ስልጠናውን የወሰዱት ሹፌሮች፣ የማሽከርከር ፍቃድ ያላቸው መምህራንና ሰራተኞች ሲሆኑ በድምሩ 104 (አንድ መቶ አራት) ባለሙያዎች ናቸው፡፡

ስልጠናው እንደ ሀገር በተለይ ደግሞ እንደ ኦሮሚያ ክልል ስለሚደርሱ የትራፊክ አደጋዎች ግዝፈት እና መከላከል ስለሚቻልበት ሁኔታ፣ የህግ የበላይነትን አክብሮ ስለመስራት እና ሙያው የሚፈቅደውን ስነ ምግባር ጠብቆ ማሽከርከር ላይ ግንዛቤ መፍጠርን ዋና አላማ ያደረገ ስልጠና ነው፡፡

በስልጠናው ላይ በበየነ መረብ መልእክት ያስተላለፉት የኦሮሚያ ትራንስፖርት ኤጀንሲ ዋና ዳይሬክተር አቶ ከማል ማሜ እንዳሉት እንደ ሀገርም ሆነ እንደ ክልል አሽከርካሪዎቻችን በሀገሪቱ ማህበራዊ፣ኢኮኖሚያዊ እንቅስቃሴ ውስጥ አይተኬ ሚና ያላቸው ሙያተኞች ናቸው፡፡ይህም በመሆኑ ለህዝባችን ከትራፊክ አደጋ ስጋት ነፃ ሁኖ እንዲንቀሳቀሱ ፣ውድ የሆነውን የሰው ልጅ ህይወት ብሎም ንብረት ከመጠበቅ አንፃር ከፍተኛ ሚና አላቸው ሁኖም ጥናቶች እንደሚያመለክቱት በሀገራችን ከሚደርሱ የትራፊክ አደጋዎች ውስጥ ሰማንያ አንድ በመቶ የሚሆነው አደጋ የሚከሰተው በአሽከርካሪዎች ችግር እንደሆነ አስረድተዋል፡፡

የዚህ ስልጠና ዋነኛ አላማ የገለፁት ደግሞ ምክትል ኮሚሽነር ደረጄ ባይሳ በክልሉ የታዩ የትራፊክ አደጋን ከመቀነስ አንፃር በሁሉም አሽከርካሪዎች ዘነድ ተመሳሳይ ግንዛቤ መፍጠር በመሆኑ ሰልጣኞች ስልጠናውን በአግባቡ እንዲወስዱ መልእክት አስተላልፈዋል፡፡

በመቀጠልም በተለያዩ ርእሰ ጉዳዩች ላይ ባለሙያዎች ሰፊ ስልጠናና ማብራሪያ በመስጠት መርሀ-ግብሩ ተጠናቋል፡፡

መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ‘’Year-Round Wheat Harvests in Ethiopia through Better Irrigation and Management’’ በሚል መሪ ሃሳብ ከባሌ ፣ምስራቅ ባሌ እና ምዕራብ አርሲ ዞኖች ለተውጣጡ አርሶ አደሮች እና ባለ ድርሻ አካላት ለሁለት ተከታታይ ቀናት ስልጠና ተሰቶ ተጠናቋል፡፡

በስልጠናው የተሳተፉ አርሶ አደሮች ስልጠናውን አስመልክቶ በሰጡት አስተያየት ስልጠናው በጣም አስፈላጊ እና ትልቅ ግብአት ያገኘንበት ስለሆነ ግናዛቤውን ለመጣንበት አካባቢ አርሶ አደሮች እናካፍላለን ብለዋል፡፡

መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ በምርምር ያገኛቸውን ውጤቶች ማህበረሰቡ ዘንድ በማድረስ ፣የእውቀት እና የቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር በማድረግ በተለያዩ ዘርፎች ለተሰማሩ የህብረተሰብ ክፍሎች ውጤታማ እገዛ አድርጓል፡፡ በተለይ ዩኒቨርሲቲው በግብርናው ክፍለ ኢኮኖሚ በማዘመን ለምርትና ምርታማነት እድገት ወደ አርሶ አደሩ ማህበረሰብ በመውረድ እውቀትና ተሞክሮ በማጋራት ፣አዳዲስ የአሰራር ዘዴዎችን እና ግብአቶች ላይ ግንዛቤ ማስጨበጥን ትኩረት በማድረግ በመስራት ላይ ይገኛል፡፡

መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ምርትና ምርታማነትን ከፍ ከማድረግ አንፃር በአመት እንድ ጊዜ የዝናብ ወቅት ጠብቆ ከማልማት በመላቀቅ መሰኖን በመጠቀም ማልማት ስለሚቻልበት ሁኔታ ላይ ለአርሶ አደሮች እና ባለ ድርሻ አካት የሰጠው ስልጠና ላይ ሰፋያለ ውይይት በማድረግ ተጠናቋል፡፡

Madda Walabu University conducts Capacity Building Training for Farmers & Stakeholders on Year-round Wheat Harvesting through Irrigation

The year-round wheat harvest initiative in Ethiopia represents a significant advancement in agricultural productivity, driven by improved irrigation practices and effective management strategies. This initiative is supported by the collaborative efforts of researchers from Madda University (MWU) and funded by Grow Further, aiming to enhance the capabilities of farmers and stakeholders involved in irrigated wheat production.

In the welcoming & opening speech Dr. Bezabeh Wendimu Academic/R/T/T/C/E/V/President emphasized the importance of sustainable agriculture and the need for innovative solutions to address food security challenges in Ethiopia. The commitment to capacity building through targeted training sessions will empower local farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary to adopt modern farming techniques and improve their yields.

Mr. Beriso Feyisa, the Deputy Head of the Oromia Regional Agriculture Bureau, delivered an engaging online keynote speech underscoring the critical role of irrigated wheat in Ethiopia’s agricultural landscape. He highlighted how strategic investments in research and development can lead to enhanced food production and economic growth in rural communities. Mr. Feyisa also stressed the importance of collaboration between government bodies, educational institutions, and local farmers to ensure the successful implementation of new agricultural practices. His insights set a positive tone for the training sessions, encouraging participants to embrace innovation and work together toward achieving sustainable agricultural goals.

The event featured three significant research papers that provided valuable insights into various aspects of wheat production. Dr. Negash Geleta (National Wheat Research Program Coordinator at BARC/EIAR) presented findings on wheat breeding, seed science, and climate adaptation, emphasizing how resilient crop varieties can help farmers withstand the impacts of climate change. On the other hand, Mr. Desalegn Dejene (Agronomist from Oromia Seed Enterprise) focused on irrigation and pest management, offering practical strategies for minimizing crop losses due to pests while maximizing water efficiency. Lastly, Asst. Prof. Jemal Abdulkerim (The Principal Investigator of the Project) discussed wheat irrigation agronomy, providing participants with essential knowledge on optimizing irrigation systems for better crop performance. These presentations not only enriched the training experience but also fostered discussions on best practices among attendees.

The training program substantiated with active & lively engagement of the trainees on three presented interrelated topics. The participants have also got ample opportunity to deepen their understanding of advanced agricultural techniques. By equipping farmers with practical skills and knowledge, this initiative aims to create a ripple effect in local communities, leading to increased wheat production and improved livelihoods. The collaborative efforts of MWU researchers (funded by Grow Further), local stakeholders, and government officials signify a promising step towards transforming Ethiopia's agricultural landscape through sustainable practices and innovative solutions. As the training progresses, it is anticipated that participants will leave with actionable insights that can be implemented in their farming operations, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and productive agricultural sector in Ethiopia.

Finally, we have learnt from the schedule as the training program will continue tomorrow on two remaining topics (Wheat Value Chain Development & Agricultural Extension Service Development).

Madda Walabu University, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, successfully executed its 8th Annual Green Legacy Initiative seedling planting program within the Goba sub-city of Robe Town.

This significant endeavor took place on a designated seven-hectare parcel of land at Sirak Gara, which the University acquired from the Robe Town Administration three years prior. The program saw the active participation of the University's esteemed faculty, administrative staff, and dedicated personnel from the Goba Biodiversity Institute. During the day's planting initiative, an impressive count of over 10,000 indigenous saplings, including Olive, Juniper, and Kosso varieties, was meticulously planted.

The 8th Annual Green Legacy seedling planting initiative was formally inaugurated by Dr. Bezabih Wondimu, Vice President for Academic, Research, Technology Transfer, and Community Service at Madda Walabu University. In his keynote address, Dr. Bezabih affirmed the University's consistent dedication to the national Green Legacy program over the past seven years. He further elucidated that this year's 8th iteration of the planting initiative included a nationwide planting conducted last week, with today's event representing its crucial second phase. Emphasizing the profound significance of seedlings as "Let’s Plant Hope," Dr. Bezabih underscored the imperative to thoroughly nurture these newly planted saplings through consistent and diligent care, ensuring their regular watering, protection, and monitoring, to successfully realize the overarching national objectives of this ambitious eco-friendly initiative.

He also extended profound gratitude to the Goba Biodiversity Institute for its steadfast partnership and tireless efforts in ensuring the resounding success of this vital seedling planting activities.

መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ 8ኛውን ዙር የአረንጓዴ አሻራ ችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ ግብር በሮቤ ከተማ ጎባ ክፍለ ከተማ ላይ ነው ያከናወነው፡፡

ዩኒቨርሲቲው ከሶስት ዓመታት በፊት ከሮቤ ከተማ አስተዳደር በተረከበው በሲራክ ጋራ ሰባት(7) ሄክታር መሬት ላይ የዩኒቨርሲቲው መምህራን፣ሰራተኞች እና ከጎባ ብዝሃ ህይወት ኢንስቲትዩት ሰራተኞች ጋር በመሆን ነው የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ ግብሩን ያከናወኑት፡፡

በእለቱ በተከናወነው የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ ግብር ላይ ከ10,00 0 በላይ የሚሆኑ የሀገር በቀል የወይራ፣ፅድ እና ኮሶ ችግኞች ናቸው የተተከሉት፡፡

በ8 ኛው ዙር የአረንጓዴ አሻራ ችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ ግብሩን በንግግር ያስጀመሩት የመደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የአካደሚክ፣ምርምር ፣ቴክኖሎጅ ሽግግር እና ማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ምክትል ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር በዛብህ ወንድሙ እንዳሉት መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ላለፉት ሰባት አመታት በሀገር አቀፍ ደረጃ ሲከናወን የቆየውን የአረንጓዴ አሻራ መርሃ ግብርን ሲተገብር እንደቆየ ገልጸው ዘንድሮም በ8ኛው ዙር የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ ግብር ባለፈው ሳምንት በሀገር አቀፍ ደረጃ የተከናወነውን የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ ግብር እንዳከናወነ እና ይህ ዛሬ የተደረገው ተከላ በሁለተኛ ዙረ ያከናወነው እንደሆነ ገልፀው ችግኝ ሁሉ ነገራችን በመሆኑ ዛሬ የምንተክለው ችግኝ በመንከባከብ በሀገር አቀፍ ደረጃ ለተያዘው እቅድ ተፈጻሚነት ከግብ ልናደርስ ይገባል ብለዋል፡፡

በተጨማሪም በዚህ ችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ ግብር ከዩኒቨርሲቲው ጎን በመሆን ለውጤታማነቱ ለሚተጋውን የጎባ ብዝሃ ህይወት ኢንስቲትዩት ምስጋናቸውን አቅርበዋል፡፡

የሮቤ ከተማ ምክትል ከንቲባ አቶ ጀማል አባገሮ በዘር ዝሪት ጅማሮ ላይ በመገኘት ባደረጉት ንግግር፤ ስንዴን በኩታ-ገጠም መዝራት ምርትና ምርታማነትን ለማሳደግ ከፍተኛ ጠቀሜታ እንዳለው ገልፀው፤ መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ በክላስተሩ ውስጥ ላሉት አርሶ አደሮች ይህን ምርጥ ዘር በመደገፉ አመስግነዋል።

የኩታ-ገጠም እርሻ ሂደቱ አርሶ አደሮች በማቀናጀት ተመሳሳይ ምርጥ ዘር፤ ማዳበሪያን፣ እና የተባይ መቆጣጠሪያን መድሃኒቶችን በመጠቀም ወጪን በመቀነስ የተሻለ ምርት እንዲያገኙ ይረዳል ብለዋል።

በተመሳሳይ ሁኔታ መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የሚደገፈው የኩታ-ገጠም ስንዴ እርሻ በሲናና ወረዳ ኦቦራ ቀበሌም ዛሬ ተጀምሯል።

የሲናና ወረዳ ዋና አስተዳዳሪ አቶ አህመድዲን ሙሐመድ የኩታ ገጠም ዝሪት መርሃ-ግብር ሲያስጀምሩ አርሶ አደሮች በኩታ ገጠም ማደራጀት ግብርናን ዘመናዊ በማድረግ አርሶ አደሩን ተጠቃሚ ማድረግ የመንስስት ዋነኛ አቅጣጫ መሆኑን ተናግረዋል።

መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የአካዳሚክ፤ የምርምር፣ የቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር እና የማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ምክትል ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር ባዛብህ ወንድሙ መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ከመማር ማስተማር እና ጥናትና ምርምር በተጨማሪ በርካታ የማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ስራዎችን እንደሚሰራ አንስተው፤ይህም በባሌ፤ምስራቅ ባሌ፣ምዕራብ አርሲ ዞኖች እና በሮቤ ከተማ በተለያዩ 7 ወረዳዎች አርሶ አደሮች ስንዴን በኩታ ገጠም እንዲያመርቱ ምርጥ ዘር በመደገፍ እየሰራ ያለው ስራ የዚሁ አክል ነው ብለዋል፡፡በተጨማሪም ዶ/ር ባዛብህ እንደገለፁት ዩኒቨርሲቲው ከአርሶ አደሮች ጎን በመሆን ሙያዊ ድጋፍ እና ከተለያዩ የኬሚካል መድሀኒት አቅራቢዎች ጋር በመሆን በኩታ ገጠም ለታቀፉት አርሶ አደሮች በነፃ እንደሚያቀርብ እስረድተዋል፡፡

በኩታ ገጠም ታቅፈው ዛሬ የእርሻ መሬታቸው በምርጥ ዘር የተሸፈነው እርሶ አደሮች ድጋፉ ወጪያቸውን እንደቀነሰላቸው እና በኩታ-ገጠም መስራት ምርትና እና ምርታማነታቸውን ለማሳደግ ወሳኝ መሆኑን ተናግረዋል።

ከሁሉም የሀገሪቱ ክፍል የተውጣጡ የብልጽግና ፓርቲ የህዝብና ዓለም አቀፍ ግንኙነት ኃላፊዎች በመደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ቅጥር ግቢ ውስጥ በመገኘት ነው የችግኝ ተከላውን ያካሄዱት፡፡ ችግኝ ተከላው የተመራው በብልጽግና ፓርቲ የህዝብና ዓለም አቀፍ ግንኙነት ኃላፊ በሆኑት በዶ/ር ቢቂላ ሁሪሳ አማካኝነት ነው፡፡

በወቅቱ ሉካን ቡድኑ መደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ሲደርሱ እንኳን ደህና መጣች በማለት ንግግር ያደረጉት የመደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሰቲ የህዝብ እና ዓለም አቅፍ ግንኙነት ስራ አስፈፃሚ የሆኑት ዶ/ር ተሰማ ታደሰ ናቸው፡፡ዶ/ር ተሰማ ስለ ዩኒቨርሲቲው አጠቃላይ መረጃ ፣ዩኒቨርሲቲው ስላለው ካምፓሶች፣ስለሚሰጣቸው ፕሮግራሞች፣ስለ ትኩረት አቅጣጫ እንዲሁም በዩኒቨርሲቲው ከቅርብ ጊዜ ወዲህ እየመጡ ያሉ የለውጥ ስራዎችንና ዩኒቨርሲቲው ከዞኑና ከከተማ አስተዳደሩ ጋር በቅርበት እየሰራ መሆኑን አብራርተዋል፡፡

አጭር ገለጻውን ተከትሎ በተዘጋጀው የችግኝ መትከያ ቦታ ላይ በመገኘት ተከላወን ያካሄዱት በዶ/ር ቢቂላ ሁሪሳ የብልጽግና ፓርቲ የህዝብና ዓለም አቀፍ ግንኙነት ኃላፊ ፣ወ/ሮ ፈዲላ ቢያ የብልጽግና ፓርቲ ቢሮ ኃላፊ፣ከተለያዩ የሀገሪቱ ክልሎች የመጡ የብልጽግና ፓርቲ የህዝብና ዓለም አቀፍ ግንኙነት ኃላፊዎች፣ የባሌ ዞን ዋና አስተዳዳሪ፣የሮቤ ከተማ ከንቲባና ም/ከንቲባ፣የመደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የአካዳሚክ፣ ምርምር ቴ/ሽ/ማ/አገ/ም/ፕሬዝዳንት፣የመደ ወላቡ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የአስተዳደር እና ልማት ም/ፕሬዝዳንት፣የተለያዩ ዳይሬክተሮች እና ኃላፊዎች በመገኘት የችግኝ ተከላውን አካሄደዋል፡፡

በዚህም እንደ ሀገር የተያዘውን 8 ቢሊየን ችግኝ የመትከል እቅድ ውስጥ የራሳቸውን አሻራ አኑረዋል፡፡

ጎባ ሪፈራል ሆስፒታል በሮቤ ከተማ ዋቆ ጉቱ አደባባይ ለሮቤ ከተማ ነዋሪዎች ነፃ የህክምና አገልግሎት ፣ የደም ግፍትና የስኳር በሽታ ምርመራን ጨምሮ በተለያዩ ምርመራዎች ላይ ከ750 በላይ ለሚሆኑ ሰዎች ነፃ የምርመራ አገልግሎት ሰጥተዋል ።

ይህ የክረምት የጤና በጎ በፍቃድ አገልግሎት ለስድስት ሳምንታት የሚቆይ ሲሆን ጎባ እና ሮቤን ጨምሮ ለተለያዩ ወረዳዎች ከ120,000 በላይ ማህበረሰብ ተጠቃሚ እንደሚሆኑ የፕሮግራሙ አስተባባሪ ዶ/ር ሰለሞን ክፍሌ ገልፀዋል።
