Madda Walabu University (MWU) is one of the higher educational institutions. The name Madda Walabu University is given to the university based on the place name which is 227 Km away from the zonal town Robe to the southwest. Historically the place is closely related to the Oromo people who are the brainchild of the culture of the "Gada" system as it has been recurrently indicated by elders and researchers. This place has been recurrently indicated by elders and researchers. Nowadays, the name Madda Walabu is commonly used by Madda Walabu Stadium, Madda Walabu Cultural band, Madda Walabu University itself, and other smaller business centers named after this unique place in order to make the memory long-lasting in the mind of the people. Madda Walabu University is, in fact, among the recently founded (1999 E.C) institutions of public higher education in the country. However; despite its being new the university can be categorized as a rapidly changing institution in terms of student admission, expansion of programs and campuses. The geography of the zone and its state of being breadbasket in terms of production make its surrounding to be the Ukraine of Africa, which in turn makes the university a place worth living. Moreover, the university is surrounded by different tourist attraction centers which make it appealing to be an ear-catching institution to be visited. Vision:

CALL ANNOUNCEMENT

To all 1st year regular students of Madda Walabu University

This announcement is to all newly assigned regular students for the 2026/2027 (2019 E.C.) academic year and students who attended the 2025/2026 (2018 E.C.) remedial program and achieved a passing score on the university entrance examination. The registration dates for 1st year students are October 19 & 20, 2026 (Tikimt 09 & 10, 2019 E.C.), and classes begin on October 21, 2026 (Tikimt 11, 2019 E.C.). You are requested to appear in person at the University's Main Campus Main Registrar Office to register.

Reminder:

* All students coming for registration must bring: Fayda Digital ID (National ID); all educational credentials from Grade 8 to 12 (original and copies); blanket, bedsheet, pillowcase, and sports clothes.

* The university will not accommodate students who arrive before or after the designated registration dates.

* Registration date for students assigned to Madda Walabu University for the 2026/2027 (2019 E.C.) Remedial Program will be announced in the future.

REGISTRATION ANNOUNCEMENT

To: All 2nd-Year and Above Regular Students of Madda Walabu University

For the 2026/2027 academic year (2019 E.C.), the registration period for 2nd-year and above undergraduate regular students is September 22 and 23, 2026 (Meskerem 12 and 13, 2019 E.C.). Classes will officially begin on September 24, 2026 (Meskerem 14, 2019 E.C.).

Important Notes:

1. Because registration for all students is conducted online, students must physically report to their respective campuses on the dates specified above and register using the following link:

2. The registration schedule for students who completed the 2025/2026 (2018 E.C.) Remedial Program and passed the examination, as well as new 1st-year students assigned by the Ministry of Education for the 2026/2027 academic year (2019 E.C.), will be announced in the future.
3. Students arriving prior to or after the specified registration dates will not be accommodated.

Cautionary Notice to Whom It May Concern!

A directive issued by the Ministry of Education to all regions and universities mandates that no educational credentials or official documents shall be issued to students completing their 5th or 6th year of study unless they take and pass the Exit Exam.

Accordingly, Madda Walabu University notifies all concerned that starting from the 2024/25 (2017 E.C.) academic year, NO educational credentials or support letters ("To Whom It May Concern...") are being issued to undergraduate summer program students who have not passed the Exit Exam.

Modern Laparoscopic Surgery at Madda Walabu University – Free Summer Volunteer Service Being Provided

It is recalled that the 2018 EC summer health volunteer service program at Madda Walabu University Goba College of Medicine and Health Sciences was officially launched on July 24, 2026 under the motto "Volunteering for Our Health." Multifaceted activities have been extensively carried out since.

Accordingly, today at Madda Walabu University College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Goba Referral Hospital, modern laparoscopic surgery is being provided free of charge to selected patients as part of the summer volunteer service program designed to reduce the surgical backlog. Laparoscopic surgery is a modern surgical technique performed through minimal incisions, helping to achieve faster recovery, shorter hospital stays, and an improved patient experience for selected surgical procedures.

Strengthening this service at Goba Referral Hospital was made possible through the donation of a laparoscopy tower from external partner organizations, continuous on-the-job training provided to our professionals, and the ongoing enhancement of the hospital’s manpower and surgical capacity. This is a tangible success that helps transform external partnerships into sustainable local capacity, creating an opportunity for many patients to receive modern, high-quality, accessible, and free surgical care.

The University expresses its deepest gratitude to all partner organizations, health professionals, leaders, and support staff who collaborated and participated in this great endeavor.

Call for Registration

Madda Walabu University hereby announces that for the 2018 E.C. academic year, the online registration dates for returning summer program undergraduate and postgraduate (Master's) students will be on Hamle 16 and 17, 2018 E.C. (July 23 & 24, 2026). Students are required to be present in person at the Main Registrar's Office to complete their registration. Tutorial classes will commence on Hamle 20, 2018 E.C. (July 27, 2026).

For new private applicant students looking to join the PGDT (Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching) program, the application window is from Hamle 14 to 17, 2018 E.C (July 21 - 24, 2026). You can apply in person at the Colleges Registrar building, Block-26, located at the Main Campus in Bale Robe. For departments that secure a sufficient number of trainees, the official registration dates will be Hamle 23 and 24, 2018 E.C. (July 30 & 31, 2026), and classes will begin on Hamle 27, 2018 E.C (August 03, 2026).

Please Note:
We strongly emphasize that the university will not accommodate any students who arrive earlier or later than the specified dates.

Government-sponsored students are strictly required to bring an official letter from their respective Woreda Education Office when arriving for registration.
