Congrats Hilina, renowned and among the few gender equality activists in Ethiopia!
π Applications are now open for the 2026/27 Mo Ibrahim Foundation Scholarship at SOAS University of London.
As part of our scholarship alumni series, we are sharing reflections from past recipients on how the programme has shaped their careers and contributions to Africa's development.
βReceiving the Mo Ibrahim Scholarship in 2015 to study an LL.M. in Gender and Law at SOAS was a real turning point in my professional life. At the time, specialised legal studies in feminist and gender-focused law were still quite new in Ethiopia, and pursuing this degree placed me among an early cohort developing expertise in the field.
When I returned home, I became involved in teaching and curriculum development as an academic at Addis Ababa University and Mekelle University. The degree also opened doors to international development work, including with the United Nations, in both national and international postings.β
