ጅማ ቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት ግንቦት 30/2015 ዓ.ም በጅማ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ጅማ ቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት የኤሌክትሪክና ኮምፒዩተር ምህንድስና ፋኩሊቲ የ2015 ዓ.ም ተመራቂ ተማሪዎች ገበጣ መጫዎት የሚችል ሮቦት ሰርተዋል።

ተማሪዎቹ ሀገር በቀል ባህልና እሴቶቻችንን ዘመኑ የደረሰበትን ቴክኖሎጂ ለማድረስ በአርቴፊሻል ኢንተለጀንስ በመታገዝ የገበጣ ጨዋታ ከሰዎች ጋር ሁኖ እንዲጫዎት በማድረግ የባህል ጨዋታው ከሀገራችን አልፎ ለመላው ዓለም ዕውቅና እንዲያገኝ ከፍተኛ ጠቀሜታ እንዳለው ተናግረዋል።

ሀገራችን ከምትታወቅባቸው የባህል ጨዋታዎች መካከል አንዱ የሆነው የገበጣ ጨዋታን በማዘመን በኮምፒውተር ኢንጅነሪንግ ተማሪዎች ተሰርቶ አገልግሎት መስጠት ችሏል።

የፈጠራ ስራውን ለተፈለገው አገልግሎት ለማዋል የሮቦቱ እቃዎችን ማሟላት እና ከባለድርሻ አካላት ጋር ትብብር እንደሚያስፈልግ ተማሪዎቹ ተናግረዋል።

በጅማ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የጅማ ቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት ሳይንቲፊክ ዳ/ር ኢንጅነር ኤፍሬም ዋቅጅራ የተማሪዎቹን የፈጠራ ስራ አድንቀው የማስተማር ዓላማውም የአካባቢያቸውን ችግሮች በመረዳት መፍጠር የሚችሉ ብቁ ተማሪዎችን መፍጠር ነው ብለዋል። ተማሪዎቹ የከፍተኛ ትምህርት የመውጫ ፈተና ተፈታኝ እንደመሆናቸው ጊዜያቸውን አብቃቅተው ገበጣ መጫዎች የሚችል ሮቦት መስራታቸው የተመራቂ ተማሪዎችን አቅምና ችሎታ ያሳያል በማለትም ተናግረዋል።

ኢንጅነር ኤፍሬም ገበጣ መጫዎት የሚችል ሮቦቱ አገልግሎት ላይ እንዲውል ኢንስቲትዩቱ አስፈላጊውን ድጋፍ እንደሚያደርግላቸውም ገልፀዋል።

Jimma University CISCO Academic Support Center (ASC) recognized as a top ASC in Africa

Cisco Systems promoted Jimma University Cisco Academy to Academy Support Center(ASC) for Ethiopia and Somalia as of 2015.

Since then, the ASC has been managing all Cisco Academies throughout Ethiopian and Somalian universities, colleges and NGOs.

The center has been managing more than 90 Cisco Academies and serves as the only instructor training center to give Training of Trainers (ToT) and certify instructors to teach within the academic system.

Jimma University ASC achieved the Premier status in 2021 and 2022 for positive student growth by being in the top 15% of ASCs during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 16, Cisco Academy program celebrated its 25th year anniversary in Paris, France. Jimma University was awarded as the top ASC in Africa along with another ASC in Kenya. The ASC received the “Be the BRIDGE 2023 Award” for its outstanding performance in supporting Cisco academies in Ethiopia and Somalia and achieving a significant growth in student numbers in 2021 and 2022.

Training and Hackathon on Brain Tumor Segmentation at Jimma Institute of Technology

The AI & Biomedical Imaging research lab of JiT, in collaboration with Jimma University's Technology Transfer and University Industry Linkage Office, as well as the SPARK Academy in deep learning and Medical Imaging, organized a Brain Tumor Segmentation Hackathon. This event is taking place from May 22nd to May 26th, 2023, at the Jimma Institute of Technology Incubation Center for selected Jimma University staff members and MSc students.
Prior to the hackathon, the SPARK Academy conducted a comprehensive 6-week virtual training program. This training was held across eight sites in seven African countries, including JiT-Ethiopia. Following the hackathon, there will be a 6-week practicum from May 29th to July 31st, 2023. During this period, participants will have the opportunity to apply the skills they have acquired and develop innovative AI models for the MICCAI (Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention) Brain Tumor Segmentation challenge. By participating in this challenge, individuals stand a 50% chance of winning a monetary prize of $5,000 as the top-ranked African model. Moreover, there is an additional opportunity to win further recognition by being the highest-ranked method globally.
SPARK (The Sprint AI Training for African Medical Imaging Knowledge Translation) is one of the training platforms of the Consortium for Advancement of MRI Education and Research in Africa (CAMERA) offered through the Medical Artificial Intelligence (MAI) Lab at Crestview Radiology Ltd, Lagos, Nigeria and the Multimodal Imaging of Neurodegenerative Disease (MiND) Lab, McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
