A multidisciplinary team of researchers from the Natural Resources Management (NRM), Socio-Economic, and Extension Directorates of SoRLARI, in collaboration with Gudina Tumsa Foundation (GTF), has officially launched the field mission in the first intervention zone "Shabele" among the six sampled zones of the Somali Region.
The overall study covers 46 sampled kebeles across 19 sampled woredas. The first phase is currently underway in the initial selected woredas.
The mission aims to:
1. Assess Agricultural Extension Services and Technologies
– evaluating the effectiveness, accessibility, adoption levels, and performance of extension systems and promoted technologies.
2. Study Constraints to Irrigation Development and Efficient Water Use – identifying institutional, technical, environmental, and socio-economic barriers limiting irrigation expansion and optimal water resource utilization.
This initial phase will help ensure smooth implementation prior to full-scale rollout across the remaining sampled zones.
