It is a great pleasure to participate in the Africa Water Security Conference (AWS-2026) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
On the second day of the conference, I had the privilege of presenting our joint research, on behalf of all co-authors ( Asfaw Kebede K.(Ph.D) Juan Carlos Zamora Luria Abdulaziz Mohamed Christos Boufidis Matthew Griffiths Denys Grombacher) entitled:
“Enhancing Groundwater Investigation in Semi-Arid and Complex Geological Settings through Transient Electromagnetic Surveys: A Case Study in Dire Dawa, Eastern Ethiopia.”
This study represents the collective work of our research team, exploring the application of Transient Electromagnetic (TEM) surveys to improve groundwater investigation in challenging geological environments.
Beyond presenting our research, AWS-2026 has been a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange, scientific dialogue, networking, and collaboration. The diverse sessions provided insights into groundwater and water resources, climate and hydrological modelling, water quality, climate resilience, nature-based solutions, digital technologies, irrigation, and transboundary water governance.
A particularly inspiring experience was listening to Prof. Assefa M. Melesse, PhD, PE, BCEE, BC.WRE of Florida International University, whose keynote highlighted 'From Data to Decision: Integrating Hydrological Science, Climate Intelligence, and Transboundary Governance for Water Security in Africa'
The conference has also provided an excellent opportunity to connect with researchers and professionals from different institutions, disciplines, and countries, opening possibilities for future research collaboration and professional partnerships.
I gratefully acknowledge the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark through the “Rapid Groundwater Resource Mapping Programme for Integrated Water Resource Management in Ethiopia – a capacity development programme for new and faster hydrogeophysical groundwater assessment technologies.”
My sincere appreciation goes to the ACEWM, Addis Ababa University, and the organizers of AWS-2026 for creating this valuable platform.
With one more day remaining, I look forward to continuing the discussions, strengthening connections, and exploring opportunities for future collaboration toward a more water-secure and resilient Africa.
