Wollo University Establishes Agriculture Research, Demonstration and Technology Transfer Site in Amhara regional state, Oromo Administrative Special Zone
=================//================
Wollo University College of Agriculture has established an Agriculture Research, Demonstration and Technology Transfer Site in Gobeya Kebele, Dawa Chefa Woreda Administration, in Amhara regional state, Oromo Administrative Special Zone.
Covering 6.62 hectares, the site has significant potential to serve as a productive orchard center, practical teaching and field laboratory, research and innovation platform, technology-transfer hub, community-service facility, and income-generating university enterprise.
The existing mango and citrus orchard represents a valuable biological asset and provides the operational foundation for developing the site into an integrated agricultural education, research, and technology-transfer center.
The site will provide undergraduate and postgraduate students with opportunities for practical learning and field-based training. By connecting classroom learning with real-world agricultural challenges, the initiative will enable students to develop practical competencies, provide researchers with opportunities to conduct field-oriented research, facilitate the demonstration and adoption of appropriate agricultural technologies, and contribute to evidence-based agricultural development.
The achievement was made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Wollo University, the Oromo Administrative special Zone, and the Dawa Chefa Woreda Administration.
The establishment of the site represents more than the development of a physical agricultural research facility. It marks a strategic step toward strengthening applied education, demand-driven research, technology transfer, innovation, and community-based problem solvingโkey pillars of an applied university. It will also create a collaborative environment where researchers, farmers, development partners, and local communities can jointly generate, test, adapt, and scale agricultural technologies and innovations.
The site will therefore serve as a platform where knowledge is transformed into practice, research into innovation, and innovation into impact.
Wollo University remains committed to strengthening partnerships and creating an enabling environment where education, research, innovation, and community service converge to address local and national development priorities.
