reflection on xenophobia in South Africa. As a language teacher, me, David,
witnessing the tragic actions of xenophobia in South Africa is deeply
unsettling. Here are some of my thoughts and feelings on this pressing issue.
Nelson Mandela's struggle against apartheid is a powerful reminder of
of resistance and the fight for equality. His legacy should inspire unity rather than division.
Ethiopia played a significant role in supporting Nelson Mandela's
movement during the apartheid era, providing refugee and hosting him as he fought for freedom.
This commitment to hospitality reflects Ethiopia's broader history for hosting
migrants and refugees from various countries including South Sudan, Yemen,
Syria and Eritrea. It's dis-hurting to see acts of violence and discrimination
against foreigners in a country that once stood as a symbol of hope and
reconciliation. I feel a deep sense of empathy for those who are affected by
xenophobic acts. Many have already endured significant hardship and seek
safety and better life. We do have beautiful land, time is coming, so let our
people live.
