Field Day at Ambo University Guder Mamo Mazamir Campus, October 17, 2023GC

Ambo University Guder Mamo Mazamir Campus organized a field day at Abebech Gobana Agricultural Research Center on October 17, 2023G.C. On the field day smallholder farmers, commercial farmers, agricultural research centers and professionals, Delegates from Ministry of Education, T**e Kutaye Woreda administration, Ambo Town Administration, West Shewa Zone Administration and Zone Agriculture office were participated. Participants visited Coffee Plantation Site, Beekeeping Farm, Cattle Farm, Poultry Farm, and Crop Farms. On top seed multiplication site, Nutrition Management Experiment site and crops rotation farming sites using good agricultural practices and other activities run by Abebech Gobena Research Center, which is used for farmer training center were visited. At the end, the university gave five Horro and Borana cross heifers cattle to selected farmers from Birbirsa and Dogoma kebele.

The late Mr. Tamirat W/Gebriel, who passed away nearly six months ago, was the academic staff of Ambo University, department of Agricultural Engineering. Mr. Tamirat served the University for about 39 years. He was one of the founders of the Institute of Technology, now named as Hachalu Hundesa Campus. Mr. Tamirat had the culture of donating books to the University and other organizations while he was alive. His brothers told that he used to care for books as if books are his children. Following his vision, his family donated 73 books and other valuable manuscripts and a laptop. The University appreciates the commitment of his brothers namely: Teshome W/Gebriel, Ephrem W/Gebriel and Mesfin W/Gebriel to travel all the ways from Addis Ababa to Ambo to handover the books to the University. Like the late Mr. Tamirat, "one must always be careful of books, as what is inside them have the power to change us"!
