A Brief History of Bright Future School (Part 1)
Bright Future School was established in 1998 (1990 Ethiopian Calendar) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as a community-based private school with a not-for-profit business model to provide quality education to young people. Its mission was to educate young people to become happy, positive, confident, and competent in the walks of life they choose and to make them play a constructive role in the development of Ethiopia, Africa, and the world. From the day it opened, 22.8% of its student body, particularly those who would not otherwise be able to get quality education, benefited from the full or partial scholarships the school offers.
Over the past 25 years, Bright Future School has served over 22,000 students from Kindergarten to 12th grade. The school started with 26 students in 1998 and grew to over 2500 by 2008.
Throughout its history, the school has a record of 100% of students passing the University Entrance exam. The school takes pride in its alums who have graduated from universities in Canada, China, Dubai, Europe, The United States, and other locations worldwide, pursuing careers as Medical Doctors, architects, lawyers, judges, engineers, pilots, and so on.
The school mainly focused on discipline and creating pride in its students' national identity. It greatly emphasized STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education.
The school's motto is "More than a school; we are family". Due to this motto and culture of unity, the school created close bonds among its alums that lasted for years after they left the school.
Bright Future School expanded its campuses from one in the Bole area of Addis Ababa to Gerji and even Hawassa.
