EPHI, with WHO and international EMT mentors from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), successfully conducted a Pre-Verification Visit for the Ethiopian Emergency Medical Team (EMT) from 26–30 May 2026 at the EMT Training Centre in Bulbula Addis Ababa.

Approximately 40 EMT members participated in this milestone exercise, marking a critical step in Ethiopia’s journey toward achieving WHO EMT Type 1 Fixed classification. The second EMT team to be classified by WHO in Africa. Congrats ET!!!!!

Over three days, the team established a full-scale Type 1 Fixed field hospital, demonstrating strong operational capacity. This was followed by a comprehensive assessment of readiness across key components, including governance, clinical services, logistics, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and information management, in line with WHO EMT standards.

The exercise culminated in a full-scale simulation, testing deployment procedures, clinical workflows, coordination mechanisms, and outbreak response capacity—including the management of a suspected Ebola disease case.
