On behalf of the Ethiopian Network for Nuclear Education, Science and Technology (Et-NEST), we warmly congratulate Mr. Sandokan Debebe on his appointment as the Commissioner of the newly established Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission.

This milestone reflects Ethiopia’s commitment to building a safe, reliable, and future-ready nuclear program that advances our national priorities—energy security, industrial competitiveness, skilled employment, public health, water resilience, and climate responsibility. We are confident that under Mr. Sandokan’s leadership, the Commission will foster a culture of excellence, transparency, and international best practice, anchored in independent regulation and a strong safety ethos.

As the national community of universities, research institutes, professionals, and students dedicated to peaceful nuclear applications, Et-NEST stands ready to partner with the Commission to:

strengthen curricula and research programs in nuclear science, engineering, medicine, and radiation protection;

expand workforce pipelines through training, mentorship, and internships;

promote public engagement and science communication grounded in facts and openness; and

accelerate early, tangible benefits for citizens—from medical isotopes and cancer care to food security, industrial QA/NDT, and water solutions.

Together, we can build a program that not only powers homes and industries but also powers opportunity—for our youth, for our universities, and for every region of Ethiopia.

Welcome, Commissioner Sandokan. We look forward to a constructive partnership and a safer, cleaner, and more prosperous energy future for Ethiopia.
