Can one single theory save the planet? 🧐

On December 19, 2025, our latest classroom drama, “Earth’s Cry,” taught us that no single perspective has all the answers when it comes to population and resources. By stepping into the shoes of famous theorists like Malthus, Boserup, and Marx, we learned that real-world solutions require a balance of innovation, justice, and sustainability.

Key Takeaway: Technology can transform challenges into opportunities, inequality deepens environmental suffering, and sustainable development requires thoughtful planning rooted in fairness.

Proud of this collaboration directed by the students of LIA!

Lebawi International School Celebrates Culture, Talent, and Creativity!

Today, Lebawi International School was buzzing with energy as students of all ages showcased their talents, creativity, and cultural pride!

Our youngest learners—our little Lebawiyans in KG—kicked off the celebrations with their Cultural Celebration Event, filling every corner of the school with laughter, rhythm, and excitement. Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, they sang, danced, and performed with confidence, creating heartwarming moments for parents and teachers alike.

The Mid-Year Show highlighted our students’ developing talents across music, dance, drama, Ge’ez programs, Arabic interviews, and other captivating performances. Each act reflected dedication, creativity, and a joy for learning.

Our Middle School students celebrated culture with pride, presenting traditional dances, speeches, a fashion show, and dance competitions. Their performances showcased teamwork, creativity, and a deep appreciation for cultural heritage.

Together, these celebrations filled our school with joy and laughter.

Celebrating Culture, Celebrating Our Students!

Today, our Grade 12 – Class of 2025 came together at Lebawi International Academy to celebrate Ethiopian Cultural Day, bringing heritage, unity, and joy to life through vibrant cultural attire and meaningful cultural representation.

Our students proudly showcased Ethiopia’s rich traditions, colorful dress, and diverse cultural expressions. Their confidence, creativity, and pride transformed the day into a powerful celebration of community.

In a heartfelt reflection, our student Biruk shared:“Culture is vibrant. Culture is beauty. Culture is belonging.” His message beautifully reminds us that culture is not only about tradition—it is about connection and the values we carry with us.

Today, our students did more than celebrate; they embodied culture through their stories, attire, and shared joy.

At Lebawi Academy, we are proud to have students who shine with leadership, creativity, and confidence; students who not only participated in the lecture series but brought the entire program to life.

We would like to recognize our exceptional student MCs, Firtuna Dessie and Hemen Tewodros, who led the event with poise and grace; the powerful speeches delivered by Ahyan Nejib and Fatimah Ferid, which left a lasting impression on our guests and demonstrated how articulate and confident our students are; and the meaningful school tour curated and guided by Abimael Samson, Firtuna Dessie, Yosabeth Simon, and student body president Khulud Aman, which provided visitors with an insightful journey through the campus, explaining the layout, key facilities, and the philosophy behind each space reflecting the school’s commitment to learning, community, and inclusivity.

Our guest author, Lemn Sissay, was impressed by the students’ initiative, the thoughtful tour, and the exceptional speeches delivered during the event. He described the speeches as mind-blowing and highly articulate. His comments highlighted the students’ creativity, leadership, and remarkable ability to engage and inspire their audience.

Our guest Goretti Kyomuhendo (Uganda) expressed that in all her visits to schools, she had never encountered anything like this. She was truly amazed by the students’ performance, confidence, and dedication.

From yesterday’s lecture series, we proudly spotlight these remarkable young leaders for their creativity, dedication, and excellence. Their contributions elevated the entire program, and we celebrate the brilliance and talent they bring to our community.

Lecture Series

Today, we had the honor of hosting a truly remarkable lecture series featuring two world-acclaimed international guest authors:

Goretti Kyomuhendo (Uganda) – renowned Ugandan author, mentor, publisher, and literary activist.

Lemn Sissay – celebrated poet, playwright, and broadcaster.

This distinguished program included an interactive session with 100 selected LIA high school students. Our esteemed guests generously:

Shared their personal journeys and life experiences.

Inspired us with Lemn Sissay’s reflection on how everything begins with imagination, reminding us that "Everything is born of the imagination" and to "Be the bridge between imagination and reality."

Touched us with Goretti Kyomuhendo’s story of learning the art of storytelling from her grandmother, noting, "The world may call my grandma illiterate but I don't because she is the one who taught me of the world through folktales."

Encouraged students to pursue and celebrate their literary passions, with advice like Goretti Kyomuhendo's: "You should read more than you write... readers are writers, and writers are readers."

We would also like to recognize our exceptional student MCs, Firtuna Dessie and Hemen Tewodros, who led the event with confidence and grace; the powerful speech delivered by students Ahyan Nejib and Fatimah Ferid; and the meaningful school tour curated and guided by students Abimael Samson, Firtuna Dessie, Khulud Aman, and Yosabeth Simon.

Our students were excellent—asking thoughtful questions, engaging deeply with our guests, and demonstrating their curiosity and creativity. A standout moment was the insightful question from student Hasset Tilahun: "Do you write about: The life you had; The life you escaped, or The life you wish you had?"

This special outreach initiative was not only intellectually enriching but also deeply inspiring. It nurtured emerging talent, sparked creativity, and cultivated a lifelong love of reading and writing among young minds.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Goretti Kyomuhendo and Lemn Sissay for gracing us with their presence and sharing their invaluable experiences. Their words and wisdom will resonate with our students for years to come. Lemn Sissay's closing thought, "Discovering who you are is the beauty of life," and Goretti Kyomuhendo's encouragement to "Always persevere even if it seems dark," provide lasting inspiration.

We would also like to thank the great jazz musician and Lebawian, Jorga Mesfin, for opening the program with one of his musical pieces.

Finally, we would like to thank all Lebawi faculty members, students, our distinguished guests, and Dashen Bank Culture Club for making this event possible.
