Addis Ababa June 14, 2020
: Triple negotiations between Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan on guidelines and rules for the first mobilization and annual operation of the Returns continued, for Saturday, June 13, 2020, via video conference in the presence of observers.
Under Sudan's presidency, the three countries negotiated technical issues on the first mobilization and annual operation of the reflux. Based on the timeline to fill the renaissance dam, countries have reached an understanding on phase one mobilization, scale of environmental flow, guidelines for filling phase one and drought management rules approach. Countries have also reached an understanding on rules of dam safety, environmental and social impact assessment studies and the entry into force of guidelines and rules. On Sunday, the three states will exchange guidelines and rules containing the outcome of negotiations.
While Ethiopia acknowledges the progress made in the days before negotiations, Ethiopia wishes to confirm this;
# First , negotiations underway are not about the customization of blue Nile water.
# Secondly , Ethiopia will adhere to guidelines and rules for the first mobilization and annual operation of the renaissance blockade that it will sign with my state of estuary.
# Thirdly, this commitment will only be guided by the Declaration of Principles issued in March 2015 which establishes relevant international principles and appropriate to the Al-Nahda Dam project.
# Fourth , any attempt to confuse the international community or campaign to exert maximum pressure on Ethiopia to accept colonial treaties to which it is not a party and prohibit its legitimate right to use the Abay / Blue Nile River camouflaged in the guidelines and rules of the first filling and the annual process other than Acceptable.
# Fifth , Ethiopia asserts that it is genuine negotiations based on good faith and transparency that will end the process with a profitable outcome for all
In this context, the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia found the press statement by the spokesman of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt on June 13, 2020 is unfortunate. Despite the spokeswoman accuses that ′′ negotiations are tripping because of Ethiopia the fact is that we have made progress and if negotiations stumble, it is only due to Egypt's stubbornness to maintain the water distribution agreement on a colonial basis that deprive Ethiopia and all countries of origin Her natural and legitimate rights. With regard to moving forward, countries have agreed to assess the outcome of the negotiations and continue negotiating outstanding issues.
Negotiations will resume on Monday, June 15, 2020 under the presidency of Egypt.
