BACKGROUND

University of Gondar MHA cohort-I students have successfully completed their capstone project proposal defense on May 30 & 31, 2016. A vast array of quality improvement topics were addressed including but not limited to improve patient satisfaction, improve staff satisfaction, decrease wait time, improve HMIS and decrease institutional neonatal death.

Students have returned back to their place of employment for implementation of their evidence-based interventions.

Masters of Hospital and Healthcare Administration (MHA) students from Mekelle University enjoy watching their classmates through a hidden camera. Since the launch of the MHA degree program in 2008, over 120 health care professionals have been trained. The MHA program also congratulates the 12 students in Rwanda who recently successfully defended all their capstone projects for graduation.

As part of FMoH ongoing effort to expand the MHA program to more universities, 2 days orientation training on MHA background, curriculum, capstone project and uniqueness of the program was given to Hawassa University School of Public Health faculty members by FMoH/HRDA and Yale GHLI, Ethiopia. Hawassa University to launch the MHA program in September 2016.

The MHA graduates have established an Ethiopian Healthcare Administrators’ Association (EHCAA) on Tuesday, March 30, 2016. The association is the first of its kind in Ethiopia.The general assembly has also nominated seven people to serve as an executive committee of the association.

The HRDD-FMoH has hosted a National MHA workshop for the first time aiming at discussing the MHA challenges in regard to students support, recruitment, training and program ownership. Findings of supervision to MHA host universities were also presented. A total of 24 representatives from 4 universities, 6 RHBs, an MHA student and 2 partners were attended. The meeting was very productive and participants were able to generate and agree on possible solutions to overcome the aforementioned challenges.

Jimma University has recently hold commencement ceremony. Twelve cohort V students were graduated. Jimma University has producing more MHA graduates in the country than any aother institution.
Seventy two more students are on track to graduate in 2016 at Jimma University, Mekelle University and University of Gondar.
Congratulation to the students in cohort V that graduated recently.
