Linear equations and Microsoft Excel
We can use Microsoft Excel to plot linear equations in xy plane, display equations on the line, calculate slope and intercept of a related data. Moreover, we can use Goal Seek feature (command) in Microsoft Excel to make a break-even analysis.
For instance, if y=2x-1, we can plot this equation using Excel. If you are given the values for x (say -4 to 4 (-4,-3,...,4)) and y depends on the values of x, you can use the slope and intercept functions to compute slope and intercept of linear equations. Moreover, if you are given a business data as follows: Revenue(R)=5Q (Q refers to quantity produced and sold).
Total Cost(C)=3Q+1000 (where Q refers quantity produced). We can use the Microsoft Excel to draw the revenue, cost and profit functions. Besides, we can do a break-even (where R=C) analysis and depict the breakeven chart using Microsoft Excel. You can try yourself and we will come up with a brief solution to the above simple mathematical problems. Thank you!
