* The work I choose has purpose
* I pay attention to details
* Train focus and development of concentration

* The skill of polishing develops
* Independence is manifested
* Sense of care and belonging in the environment ...list goes on!

If you want to keep the child safe, the solution isn't to put the knife away, rather to show the working hands of the child how to hold and use it. Make your child part of your daily routine and make them feel their presence is meaningful and that they matter.

With a child that was born around the new year and we are following since birth, here is our second reminder chosen for this week.
P.S. These series are meant to give us something to think about, to inspire to consider and reconsider our belief around child rearing and shape our personal insights. I urge you to grow with the child.

Reminder 2: The earliest Tactile experience of a child
All our "እንኳን ማርያም ማረችሽ (Enkuan Mariam Marechish)" visits of family and friends and the care that is poured in to the mother and the child are the most essential moments of a child's beginning.
# the skin to skin between a mom and her child that increases attachment and milk flow
# the small gentle strokes of dad, grandparents or other family members during diaper change or bathing
Are the earliest tactile experiences that are crucial to make the child feel loved and safe. So anytime we are making a skin contact let's remember the communication and bonding we make with the child, let's be fully present and be aware of our touch!

With the beginning of the new year, Montessori Ethiopia would like to share series of short reminders that can give us something to think about, to inspire, to consider and reconsider and gain new personal insights by following a child from birth onwards. We will explore ideas and Montessori related issues as if we have received a new born baby now and I urge you to grow with him.

Reminder ONE:
Some senses are completed in the womb. The sense of touch (skin) tracing the wall of the uterus, the sense of smell(where they identify the scent of the amniotic fluid they are swimming in), the sense of taste( where they taste the fluid they are enclosed in)and the ear for sense of hearing that is completed between 2nd and 5th month that they receive sound vibrations from their mother's voice and surrounding. Therefore, by surrounding the child with calm environment, music, sound and softly talking to him on a regular basis we are aiding the child's acquisition of language. By determining what the mother consumes we are introducing foods and flavors into the palete of the child. Our work begins before birth, therefore let's make conscious decisions towards better parenting!

By understanding this core essence of Montessori philosophy, we can aid a child in the early life adapting to the place and time he is in!
