Enlightenment Art Academy was founded by Artist Eshetu Tiruneh, Artist Asnake Kifle, Artist Eskender Seyum and Artist Anteneh Seyum with the support of Hirut Yirgu, at the dawn of the Ethiopian millennium on September 18th 2006. These artists being advocates of art education, they aimed to fill the gap created by the scarcity of art schools in Ethiopia. When the school opened in 2006, it was among
st the first three to provide an art education in the country, following the Fine Art School of Addis Ababa (now called Ale Felege Selam School of Fine Arts and Design) under the Addis Ababa University and the private Abyssinia Fine Art School. The Academy started its long journey with only seven students being enrolled, and the pathway hasn’t been without challenges. Art education in Ethiopia not being well established, these challenges are not only internal but also come from external policies that clash with the schools’ educational guidelines. It has nevertheless managed to successfully educate a good number of students in its 13 years of existence. Enlightenment Art Academy sets out to satisfy the interests of individuals who seek to acquire knowledge and skills in the art. By providing an affordable education, it sets out to develop art as an individual profession, but also to show the contribution that art can have in the development of spiritual and material life of the society and the country. Artist Asnake Kifle went on to form another art school called “Target Art Academy”. Enlightenment Art Academy’s ambitions to provide art education are stronger than ever.
የኢንላይንመንት አርት አካዳሚ የተመሰረተው በአርቲስት እሸቱ ጥሩነህ፣ በአርቲስት አስናቀ ክፍሌ፣ በአርቲስት እስክንድር ስዩም እና በአርቲስት አንተነህ ስዩም በሂሩት ይርጉ ድጋፍ መስከረም 18 ቀን 2006 ዓ.ም. ነው፡፡ እነዚህ አርቲስቶች የጥበብ ትምህርት ደጋፊ በመሆናቸው በኢትዮጵያ የሥዕል ትምህርት ቤቶች እጥረት የተፈጠረውን ክፍተት ለመሙላት ዓላማ አድርገው ነው የከፈቱት።
ትምህርት ቤቱ በ2006 ሲከፈት፣ በአዲስ አበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ሥር በሚገኘው የኪነጥበብ ጥበብ ትምህርት ቤት (አሁን አለ ፈለገ ሰላም የኪነጥበብና ዲዛይን ትምህርት ቤት) እና የግል አቢሲኒያ የጥበብ ትምህርት ቤት በመቀጠል በአገሪቱ የሥዕል ትምህርት ከሚሰጡ ሦስቱ መካከል አንዱ ነበር። አካዳሚው ሰባት ተማሪዎችን ብቻ በመመዝገብ ረጅም ጉዞውን ጀምሯል፣ እና መንገዱ ያለ ተግዳሮቶች አልነበረም። የኪነ ጥበብ ትምህርት በኢትዮጵያ በሚገባ እየተጠናከረ ባለመምጣቱ፣ እነዚህ ተግዳሮቶች ከውስጥ ብቻ ሳይሆን ከትምህርት ቤቶቹ የትምህርት መመሪያዎች ጋር በሚጋጩ የውጭ ፖሊሲዎች የሚመጡ ናቸው። ሆኖም በ 13 አመታት ውስጥ በርከት ያለ ቁጥር ያላቸውን ተማሪዎች በተሳካ ሁኔታ ማስተማር ችሏል. የኢንላይንመንት አርት አካዳሚ በኪነጥበብ ውስጥ እውቀትን እና ክህሎቶችን ለማግኘት የሚፈልጉ ግለሰቦችን ፍላጎት ለማርካት ይሰራል፡፡ በተመጣጣኝ ዋጋ ትምህርት በመስጠት ጥበብን እንደ ግለሰብ ሙያ ለማዳበር፣ እንዲሁም ኪነጥበብ ለሕብረተሰቡና ለሀገር መንፈሳዊና ቁሳዊ ሕይወት እድገት ያለውን አስተዋፅዖ ያሳያል።
የኢንላይንመንት አርት አካዳሚ አሁን በአርቲስት እሸቱ ጥሩነህ እየተመራ ነው። አርቲስት አስናቀ ክፍሌ በመቀጠል “ታርጌት አርት አካዳሚ” የሚባል የጥበብ ትምህርት ቤት አቋቁሞ በመስራት ላይ ነው። የኢንላይንመንት አርት አካዳሚ የጥበብ ትምህርት የመስጠት ፍላጎት ከመቼውም ጊዜ በበለጠ ጠንካራ ነው።
